Something really weird is going on.
My computer is just randomly restarting itself every so often.
Its happened 3 times now.
When i get back onto my profile, it says "system has recovered deom a serious error"
I have taken screenshots also of the technical side if this "error"
Can anyone help me by suggesting what i do?
I'll go upload the screenshots now.

run a good antivirus, maybe you have some annoying viruses or worms. Avast is free for home edition or maybe you can try Dr.Web. I am pretty sure that is not a hardware problem. after you run the antivirus try running Norton Utilities ( Windoctor ). after this, if you still have problems than Run : Msconfig and try to disable the stuff that you don't need at the startup. i hope this will help you

You would be surprised Nigel.
Ive just spend 10 minutes getting the mini vacuum thing through the fan, and all the dust is now gone.
It's not freezing now, and it hasn't shutdown yet, so fingers crossed :)
Did the screenshots tell you anything Nigel?

nope they are as much use as.... basically. in windows u can do reboot on failure, it could be that which is causing the reboot so u dont see the Blue Screen of Death on Windows. If it keeps happening u will need to get a look at the blue screen.

I'll go upload the screenshots now. Can be anything. But if all fans are moving and its getting worst then it might be the power source. Switching with one from some friends and see if it still happens.

Last time I got similar problems it was overheating as well, because I put my box near a heater. I relocated the damn thing and it is perfect from then on. I'm willing to bet that it was the same problem with you - your CPU core forced a restart after it got too hot :-)

I see somethign else now that i dont think ive ever seen before.
On the first screen you see when you start the computer, the last thing it seems to say is something liek:
Channel 1 no conductor 80.
Might not be conductor, ill check sometime.

Yeah, I also had this problem, there was an immense amount of dust in the fan, so I took the top off the PC, and vacuumed inside, it was much faster, and it didn't restart. :)

It could also be a bad sector on your hard drive. Scan it for any errors.
Also, your MSN messenger is sending virus spam, so you might want to do a complete virus scan as well.
|
|
|
Yeah, I also got one of those, Toni, it had Armin's name in the URL.
Mind you, Armin has AVG on, I can't see why he wouldn't have scanned for viruses, he knew his MSN did that, too.

Actually that message reffers to the IDE cable that connects the Hard Disk to the MB. There are 2 flavors of IDE cables: 40 pins (old) and 80 pins (newer). That is just a warning from the BIOS that you are not using the full speed that your hard drive is capable of because you are using the old 40 pins cable.
This message cannot cause the behavior you speak about, and it's probably been there ever since you had the computer, you just noticed it now.
PS: the full message is something like "IDE Channel 1 no 80 Conductor Cable Installed"

or your 80 wire cable is broken and only 40 pins are used.
but that's besides the point.

if you wonder is the problem with memory, you can run memtest on your PC. (or Mac)
http://www.memtest86.com/
alternative downloads can be found with searching "memtest" with popular searchengines
it is free
when you run it, prepare yourself as it may take a long time to complete... (possibly hours)

has your computer stopped breastfeeding recently ?
|
|
|
No Armin, not again. This just can't be happening. I'm starting to think that maybe the reason lies in between the screen and chair :P
Seriously, its probably overheating, you should check the temperatures.
For the memtest I'd suggest tunning it over night, because it takes a lot of time.
