Decided to try my hand at the Longwar mod for X-COM 2 and started a campaign last night (While I save up for War of the Chosen).

I figured go in on veteran considering finished game already on veteran including Shen's Last Gift and Alien Hunters mods....

I died.
And died again.
And died yet again.
And died some more after that.

That mod knows how to break you and leave you crying yourself to sleep.

Definitely be back for more tonight.

Good luck, mate! :)

I took down the Assassin and now gearing up for the Hunter stronghold.

Nice job.

Can't wait to get War of the Chosen

I learnt why I was dying so much. Longwar isn't just tactical on battlefield. You're not suppose to do 'every' mission in Longwar, but have to choose, decide which suit your needs and capabilities.

Haha... long road ahead

Tell me that when I do it on Veteran. This is Rookie ... it's easy. :p

I am upping the game too for Veteran, bringing the DLCs in as well. Those damn rulers look scary. :)

Oh, for sure. You have to withdraw sometimes. Those missions are crazy shit.

Longwar is really good, but you have to have patience. i only struggled ( and i mean really struggled) on one mission, but once i figured it out, it got easier.

WoC is awesome, i've just taken down the Assasin as well, but had to go back and do it again - leave no soldier behind - in order to get my full team out.

gotta give my team some time to recover before i get to the hunter, i only have 5 walking soldiers at this stage... am really enjoying the new challenges.

edit - Just to clarify - i have been playing XCOM since 1994... loved it then, love it now

Hunter, gone. In an hour. Warlock, next mission. Probably another hour.

Rookie is making it so easy. I am seriously considering suspending this campaign and starting a fresh new one on Veteran. Although, consider I am closer to the end than to the start, I should probably finish this one (playing without Psionic soldiers, by the way).

Yep, kick it up to at least veteran, the game needs to be a challenge.

And now that Templars have been introduced, i decided not to spend any resources on psionics as well... It's working ok so far. Any time a soldier gets mind controlled i just take out the controller quickly.

Not sure if this is due to being on Rookie difficulty or not ... but probably 80% of my soldiers are at Standard combat intelligence. Which is rather annoying, when it comes to upgrading their abilities. :/

And, naturally, since the enemy pods are smaller, there is a problem picking up Ability Points in the first place. Hence why I need to fish for Covert Ops that give Ability Points. Then again, after the Chosen are history ... what else would I do with the Covert Ops? :)

Covert ops are great for boosting soldier health, movement etc.

Saw a video yesterday of a legacy pack that's coming out any day. We will be able to play missions that span the gap between xcom and xcom2 and pad out the story. Sounds pretty interesting and apparently it'll be free until December.

I have played through ALL of the X-Com series multiple time since the beginning on PC(still love Terror from the Deep, don't ask why lol) I am sure anybody who plays has heard about 'Phoenix Point' (coming out June/2019?) which was created by the Julian Gollop(the original creator of X-Com)
-
It is worth a look ahead of time. Looks like it might be a little more forgiving/realistic on '95% chance to hit = miss' LOL

that is the best ever, lol

my favorite is only getting one soldier off the Skyranger(in the original series) before another panics/controlled and throws a grenade inside the Skyranger reducing your team to the one soldier and you haven't saved in 1/2 hour...lol

Very curious myself on that Phoenix Point. Looks good. Hopefully lives up to the promises implied in the trailers. Should be absolutely amazing if it does.

I will also give it a try, I am intrigued by the the 'vital point' targeting, slow down the 'map runners' while my heavy moves his standard 6 tiles....LOL...'hey wait for me!'

Hope you guys have tried Legacy Hub in WOTC.

You don't have to build base or choose weapons, it's just missions that get harder as your team levels up automatically.

It's great.
