Fit steel bumpers to the cars and allow contact.
No deliberate follow ins though.
Pastor Maldonado to be in great demand following this rule change.

Quote ( Stuart Foster @ July 9th 2017,20:04:45 ) I think the hard tyre has so far only appeared at Barcelona? I don't know why they bother making one then if even the soft tyre is bullet proof. A few season's ago the medium tyre was the race tyre of choice...seems now even the super soft is pretty damn resillient. 40 laps they estimated for it in Austria? That's a lot.
They were planning to bring them to more races, but since they turned out to be way too hard, they practically abandoned them.
I don't know how hard it is to make tyres that lose lots of pace before they become vulnerable to punctures, but apparently it is hard at least for Pirelli, as they don't dare to make and bring softer and/or less durable compounds.

Pirelli is maybe the worst tyre company I have worked with, for multiple reasons.
For a GT3 car, with the same tyre you have half tyre wear in tracks like Monza or A1 than in Barcelona. That tyre wear characteristic seems to correlate to F1, hence the use of the hard compound at Barça. It has to do with tarmac grain size and also corner length (braking and acceleration wears less than pure cornering).

It seems people are now complaining how long lasting are Pirelli tyres now, when last season the complaint was how fast they degraded and lost their performance.
Couple of seasons ago both Hamilton and Ricciardo's tyres would have to been replaced with the wear they had and not making fastest laps.
Anyway Bottas moved the lights were still red.when the tyres began to move forward. The final decision and why the tolerance is that there is a sensor, used to detect also if the car is in place in the grid. This sensor was still detecting the car in position since it only moved a couple of cms. forward but he moved.

Sky Sports UK showed that he started moving the literal frame the lights went out. If you are less than 0.2s from when the lights went out to starting moving then you are classed to have jumped the start as humans reactions arent that that good Honestly, i do think they may have gotten the desicion wrong, but like you said, the sensor wouldnt have picked it up

What has happened to the F1 circus that I have loved for more than 40 years? In the last 10 years it has become drowned by bureaucracy just like the EU. For years it's appeal was the gladiatorial spirit of drivers and teams, most with little money or sponsorship. Now we have dominance from car companies like Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault , Honda(Maybe?) and just one tyre manufacturer dominating the circus.
No more spirit of adventure or creativity everything becoming rule bound. Would dearly love to see the Heskett's / Tyrelles / Jordan's and Lotus badges re-emerge along with Cosworth and TAG , Bridgestone, AVON, Firestone et al coming into play again to put life back into the sport. Shortly we will probably see electric cars humming around so there is no noise pollution, "May as well get the old scalextric set back out". Followed swiftly by drivers all sitting in a shed some where in their car simulator while fans go to watch them compete on the big screen at the track so drivers and spectators are not put a risk from Noise and petrol pollution exposure, where you will be able to buy eau de Pirelli tyre smoke for your essential oil burner. F**k the sport is turning into a pussy circus, no touching it's not politically correct!
ALL Great News for GPRO !!! End of Rant

Mate totally agree, to be fair though the whole of society is going this way now, probablly got rid of v10s cos the noise triggers certain people lol
But being serious the sport should have done more to preserve hallmark privateer names such as jordan and tyrell. The sport isnt geared in a way to help these guys and it helps big corporate manufacturers drown out competition of "small firms" as at the end of the day this is just a big business venture for them. There just in it for the marketing image and once they achieve their objectives and leave, we'll be left with not alot to watch. I know the economic climate is also a huge part of the problem as formula one cars are mega expensive to operate these days but better steps need to be taken to preserve these names who dont have mega financial backing from manufacturers. The only old school privateers left are williams, mclaren and sauber all of which are floundering compared to historical success. More needs to be done.

Indeed I believe the rule is all about if the lights are out when the wheels start turning
