I have been giving this whole event a lot of thought. And especially the idea that to say "I am Charlie" is the same as agreeing, advocating or defending the works of Charlie Hebdo.
Throughout this thread, many French mangers have defended CH's work for what I can only sum up as being an equal opportunist satirist and I will believe that, more than an article which would have cherry-picked the cartoons to prove their blog post's point. Afterall, blogging is a business which depends on views. And as CH has proven, views which push the boundaries of public opinion tend to get a lot of viewing.
In regards to satire as a subject. Satire, Comedy, Humour, call it what you want. The majority of it tends to have a humanistic subject matter. Whether that is events based, belief based or things related to the human condition. All of these, can be, and will be offensive to some. And to others, it will be funny. I truly believe that there is not a person in the world that cannot be offended by a joke that another person would find funny.
With that being said. No attempt at satire is free from criticism or offense. People have as much a right to make a joke as they do, to voice their offense to one. And I believe that the movement behind "Je Suis Charlie" is defending that right. I don't feel the majority are defending and making sacred the works of a murdered cartoonists, but instead, the right that a person has to make such humour without their life being threatened. There is nothing on this planet that can be said, written or drawn that deserves death.
And for that reason, I can conclude; Je Suis Charlie.

Quote ( Krasen Belev @ January 9th 2015,01:27:46 ) We are talking about freedom of speech, but didn't hear a lot for Ahmed on the medias...
JE SUIS AHMED - Ahmed the cop who died defending the rights of Charlie Hebdo to ridiculate him religion. Just wanted to remind this, not all muslims are terorists. I'm christian and i feel like right now medias are trying to struggle all others against muslims. We should remember, that we are against the terorism, not islam.
Couldn't agree more, Krasen.

French medias talk A LOOOT about being carefull to not mix muslims and terrorists. Ahmed and Mustapha are not considered differently than the other victims. But they mainly talk about the well know drawers (4) and writer (1).

And I will remind you that the terrorists carried out their "little war" in the name of Islam. They were the ones who claimed to be Muslim. Whilst the media may or may not be trying to turn the world against Muslims, The 3 idiots involved have done a far better job than the media ever could. No, not all muslims are terrorists, that goes without saying, but at this moment in time it is also true that the 3 terrorist were Muslim. Lets hope that the very people they subscribe to, condemn their actions as the rest of us have. It is indeed a sad day.

This is the kind of thing "human disease" do: Doesn't matter if Charlie Hebdo went to far in their cartoons: nobody, NOBODY deserve to be killed for saying or posting BS. I wonder that if post BS would be a reason to kill, several people in this very GPRO forum would be threatened to be killed too, don't?
Today I saw in the news that ISIS killed a gay by stoning the guy! The problem is not the Islam itself, but how this religion is being used to do horrific things! Catholic church did it in "holy inquisition". How can anyone (ANYONE) accept such thing 5 centuries later? Have we not evolved at all as "human race" in 500 years???

Fair enough from you. The difference in our opinions is clearly huge. I respect that and I apologize if I offended someone here. My political debate regarding this subject on this topic stops from now.
Daneks, if you feel you need to say something to me, please do, I can guarantee a 100% privacy.

Who are you, Winkley ? Do you really think to be the personified truth ?
Be ashamed of all your intolerance, you prove everyday on public forums ...

I'm the most tolerant person you'll ever come across.
What is freedom? None of us are free. Not unless you consider being a debt-slave freedom. We live in a world where we are told that consumption of finite resources is path to enlightenment, and many an idiot doesn't even question it. If you can tell me how such a ridiculous social model can bring peace and prosperity, then you can tell me to shut up. Fact is that you cannot; competition for resources is just that...competition. It is human nature (evolution anyone?) to be competitive, to fight, to kill, to dominate, to enslave. How it is done is irrelevant. Fact is that we'll always be slaves in one way or another.
What is a terrorist? Someone whose view is in direct conflict with my own, or so the prevalent media sources would have me believe. I say screw them; my mind is my own, my opinion is my own, and my actions are my own. Label me a terrorist and you are undermining the very thing that you claim sacred...FREEDOM.

Hauke, the hypocrisy in your post amuses me; you're not very tolerant of my apparent intolerance. :)
