Red Bull wouldn't have just taken Honda if they didn't like what they saw at Toro Rosso. The fact that Mclaren seem to be just as far back with the same engine as Red Bull just shows you how on par the Honda engine is compared to the Renault, and with the fact Honda will now get double the data with Toro Rosso and Red Bull being powered by them, they can improve a lot. I personally can see it working a lot, and wouldn't be surprised to see Red Bull perhaps improve overall

Does the Honey Badger stay with Red Bull?

Do you think..... anyone else is going to offer him a seat for 2019?

I like Ricciardo as a driver and he seems to be a real person. His tough character and inner strength are admirable traits.

Personally, if I'm Mercedes I'm pretty happy with Bottas as he works well, keeps to himself, scores good points and doesn't challenge queen Lewis too much.

And if I'm Ferrari I'm seeing a much cheaper option in Charles Leclerc who may even have a more promising future than Ricciardo, and I'd look to promote him for either 2019 or 2020.

However, I'm not Mercedes or Ferrari, so you never know where he'll end up :D

Me personally think no matter what until Red Bull and Maclaren Get a dedicated Engine they can't compete with the factory cars I would like to see other Engine options show up good to see the Honda back would like to see maybe Toyota back also or some new comers to come into the sport to give teams options

Unfortunate, he may have what a Champion is made of but has no opportunity to claim it. Life's a bitch ain't it.

I agree with Paul more engine suppliers would be a welcome relief. It may be a dream that will not materialise because of E-cars and Hybrids limitations to come.

I don't believe it points to a grand future for Formula 1. It doesn't feel like the sport is continuing to evolve and is losing the DNA of wheel to wheel racing.

These car are faster and wider and all the bs... but are less and less dependent on the driver input. Steer the damn thing around the track and finish the race on these tires with this limited fuel.

When I think of racing.... I see 18 -20 cars going hell bent for leather around a one mile oval at the Canadian Exhibition grand stand. No holds barred just pedal to the metal racing. IT WAS FUN TO WATCH!!!

Moving to Formula 1 fandom was easy in those days and with a Canadian hero driver....

Gilles took the one mile oval racing to Formula 1 and succeeded. I had interest before but he secured me to F1.

Ricciardo will easily get a seat at either Merc or Ferrari should he announce that he is not signing a new contract. I don't think Mercedes can afford to rest on their laurels too much. Bottas has shown himself to be reliable, but he doesn't take his chances for better results. I'd be surprised if Mercedes would not be in for Ricciardo should he take to the exit. I think he will too, he's 29 next season and can't be waiting too many years for Red Bull to become a championship contender. Honda won't make them championship contenders in 1-2 seasons. Maybe in 3 or 4 they could.

If that is true then he will have them bidding for him. Merc or Ferrari can spend that kind of money and provide a competitive car.

He doesn't seem to be in for the money.. if you know what I mean. It's the racer that wants to be there for the WIN. Championship or just each race it is hard and fun racing on the track.

Driver's are always saying how much fun it was in the race. The rush of adrenaline when you are the best that day. The ultimate thrill!

Looking in ferraris history they mostly take already good drivers and not so much young potentially good drivers.
LeClerc probably need to show much better results for the rest of the season to get the spot.

Grosjean to Ferrari and LeClerc to Haas(personal theory).

Rather than working on 2019 asap they should start working on restructuring their current management before the end of the season I think, as it's leading nowhere, and seeing Alonso trying to act cool with the current situation is just frustrating.

Love the trolling from the fans on Mclaren's facebook page tho

The demise of a once great racing team thanks to three men.

Martin Whitmarsh : Couldn't convince Hamilton to stay, Put the wheels in motion for Honda switch.
Ron Dennis : Described the Honda PU as a piece of jewellery, responsible for bringing Alonso to the team.
Zack Brown : Responsible for all failures since.

These three men need to take a look at themselves for so much that went wrong since about 2012, more so Zack Brown. He didn't like Whitmarsh's comments earlier in the week that McLaren should have stuck it out. However, I hate to say it but I reckon Whitmarsh will eventually be proved right. The only mistake anyone can really levy at Whitmarsh is the Hamilton one, but with all the reliability issues McLaren were suffering the season before he left, maybe there wasn't much he could have actually done, and his head being turned by Ross Brawn so much about going to the factory team.

I did find that all quite interesting this week...but anyway, McLaren have major issues. Apparently they still set all the rooms at Ron Dennis's favourite temperature of 21 degrees and have a management structure for every part of the car. It's little wonder they are struggling when they have all these separate divisions within a company and nobody pulling it all together. It's not like Zach Brown has a technical background to make a call on where to prioritise those developments and upgrades. Who at McLaren in a top position has ANY technical background? i'm pretty sure its nobody....

Zak Brown doesn't...
Jonathan Neale doesn't...
Eric Boullier doesn't...

and I noticed this weekend one of their pit wall engineers has moved to Red Bull. No doubt one of the last men standing that had any idea what they were doing there.

Sad times.

2018: Paddy Lowe + Ed Wood

could be a four of a kind?
