He, together with Karl Wendlinger and Heinz-Harald Frentzen was part of Mercedes junior racing programme in the World Sports-Prototype Championship.
Absolutely; Thomas is correct. On top of that it was Mercedes who brought him into F1. First by paying Jordan to make his debut, then by paying Benetton to put Schumacher in their car instead of Roberto Moreno. So Schumacher started in F1 as a paydriver with the money of Mercedes. And before that he was a factory driver for them in sportscars forming a famous junior trio with Wendlinger & Frentzen. Driving for Mercedes would be like coming home for Schumacher; without them he might have never entered F1 in the first place.

I agree.. I think he just feels that he needs a year off.. He is still the fastest driver in F1.

He got beaten by Massa all the time. Raikkönen is still one of the best drivers but for sure not the fastest. Trulli, Vettel and Hamilton are also faster as Kimi and possibly Rosberg as well.

Trulli? Faster than Kimi? Nonsense.

Yeah man Trulli is never faster than Kimi.

Put the both of them in the same car, and we'll get the answer.

I'm thinking that Mercedes are now waiting for the Renault F1 announcement before deciding who to put in the second car... If Renault pull out of F1, Mercedes will run Rosberg & Kubica...
That could the the surprise Norbert Haug was talking about!

Not likely for Renault to pull out. They have said that they are committed, but even then there are at least two potential buyers already.

USF1
Probable: José-Maria Lopez Rumoured: Pedro de la Rosa, Jonnathan summerton, Jacques Villeneuve, Franck Montagny
I just had an email off Jonathan Summerton. He had an agreement with USF1 since February, but things changed in the last week, and the team now need more money. If they can't sign any more sponsors it looks like he will be out of the seat and they will hire a pay driver instead.
This explains why Jose Maria Lopez is in the frame as he is bringing at least $6M in sponsorship.

Saw that on Tony Fernandes twitter feed last night.
If I was in their shoes I'd be considering Trulli, Sato, Davidson and maybe Kobayashi...

The list of 4 on gpupdate is wrong since Fauzy will for sure be test driver and not race driver.
The 4 drivers are (Gascoyne mentioned those names in interviews): Jarno Trulli, Takuma Sato, Jacques Villeneuve and Christian Klien. I assume Davidson might also still have a slight chance but no way that they will pick Fauzy above one of the other names mentioned.

Trulli? Faster than Kimi? Nonsense.
How do you know that? Kimi is very fast but I've always rated Trulli always as one of the 3 fastest drivers in F1 over 1 lap (a bit like Andrea de Cesaris in the '80s, superfast qualy driver) and I think he still is that fast.
Trulli's a true qualifying specialist, even Alonso was hardly able to beat Trulli when they were teammates at Renault, Alonso only managed to outscore Trulli back then because Briatore was favoring him and he ousted Trulli out of Renault because Trulli refused to extend a management contract with Briatore, he was fired from the team after he took another manager (Villeneuve replaced him then) this is well known.

Also Timo Glock brought better results in many races than Jarno Trulli.
What you previously said about Hamilton and Vettel: I think Hamilton and Vettel are absolutely top5 drivers in F1 but they are just almost as fast as Kimi but not quite. After 2 years they will be faster, atleast Vettel will. Kimi was superior to Massa 2007 second-half and 2008 first-half, even now 2009 second-half Kimi drove excelent results which Massa could have just dreamed of.
Well, we can't say for sure who is the fastest and this seems to be only my opinion as yours is that Trulli is very fast.
Althought I think Hulkenberg will be faster than Hamilton and Vettel after 2 years.
