It is so sad for me that my countrymans swearing on Williams since November - they are NOT real supporters of Kubica - they are "animals" like football hooligans in Poland.

Personally, I also want Kubica's comeback, but I was and still I'm realistic. It will be sad when Williams choose Sirotkin, but I'll never swear on that decision. Time will tell if the decision will be good.

Getting simulator time is still a kind of training

If I remember correctly, di Resta hadn't driven the Williams simulator since pre-season anyways. And the simulators can only be so good anyways, there is a reason that the Stroll family paid for actual testing in an old car and didn't just stick him in a simulator.

I truly believe that di Resta is the best pick of the lot. He has prior experience in F1 machinery and has shown talent not only in Hungary last year, but in his previous stint in F1. His experience would also benefit Stroll, who undoubtedly needs to work on his consistency. The only reason to go with someone like Sirotkin is because of money, and it is a shame that that is now preventing British drivers from getting on the grid.

If we judge by having experience with the new-generation cars(which Di Resta oviously doesn't have), Wehrlein or Kvyat would be the "best picks of the lot."

there's something bothering me: didn't Williams had to hire Massa last season again because Bottas left and the contract with Martini said that they needed a driver 25 or older? or did everyone lie when they said some years ago that Sirotkin would become the youngest f1 driver ever? Did that contract run off and I didn't realise?

I think its more the point that money had a lot more to do with this decision over any of the other options available aside from Kubica.

I agree with George on that...I think it should have been important to Williams that if one of there seats wasn't a well known/recognised driver whose had relative success in F1 then a British driver with maybe only half the money to bring in sponsors than what Sirotkin might, the interest his presence would bring from the British public would be worth a significant amount in that difference. Still, Williams obviously made a decision based on numerous factors, but it does seem to me that money did 'slant' on this one.

That particular contract ended in 2017. Williams is continuing with Martini, but I do believe this is no longer part of it as it was already confirmed by Claire Williams that age has no boundary for Williams' driver line-up in 2018, so this must have been re-negotiated when they started the new sponsorship.

lol how come so many salty comments about Williams driver choice? The teams plan has been simply pragmatic last couple of years and it still now. Williams could choose between a handful drivers better than these two but yet again went for sugar daddy.

I would agree. Di Resta actually did a competent job given the circumstances in Hungary, and he probably didn't deserve to be given the boot from F1 in 2013.

But it seems crazy to me that Wehrlein is set to exit F1 given his relative performances. I can't see that either Williams or Mercedes have not been in contact about a drive given their relationship. Perhaps Williams have asked for too high a figure for Mercedes to 'sponsor' them in exchange for running him.

Ericsson being "chosen" above Wehrlein for next season at least proves there's nothing more to Alfa Romeo than the name. Under the skin it will still be Sauber. If there was any kind of investment drive going on there, Ferrari would have made sure that Ericsson was not at the wheel.

I guess Wehrlein will rock up in DTM or something though.

Must agree !! As a "Manor" supporter and follower Of young Wehrlein,,, He out performed Ericsson in a lesser car ,, YES Sauber were way behind Manor ! Going back to season 2016

Still very sore here at Manor and now Pascel's decline :(..Problem is,, In my Youth (Many moons) Alfa were my choice car,, 33 Sud and 75twin in my past CV..

Sauber are now only a "B" team for Ferrari or even "C" team behind that Yank outfit ??
