A side remark:
When you are playing poker on poker websites there is no way of knowing if the cards you and your opponents are getting are really random.
Game or gambling: to some it's addictive and malicious people will try to exploit this.

The Stock Market is an exact science. Yeah, tell that to shareholders of Lehman Brothers.

A game of luck (gambling) is defined where 50% or more of luck is involved in the outcome of the game.
By who's definition?
To the extent that that is a correct definition then I'd be inclined to say poker is not a gambling game.
However, I think that definition is a load of old tosh.

EXACTLY ! SO IS POKER !

a game (as a dice game) in which chance rather than skill determines the outcome
----
not the same thing as a better than 50% chance though is it. It is fairly obvious that there are elements of skill and luck in poker.
and for the record...if your interpretation was correct then I'd argue with the dictionary.

i think that definition is clear even to a 8 year old kid.
if its 51% or more based on skill its a game of skill.
if its 51% or more based on chance, then its a game of chance; damn i think even my dog can understand that ....
You should fight the guys over Webster.com seems they dont know what they are talking about down there .... Mr. Right ?

1. It is abundantly clear that that is not what the definition says (my non-poker job is to write and interpret definitions/agreements all the time btw)
2. Yes I would argue with that definition. People who write dictionaries are just people; they get things wrong. Luckily though, that's not what it says, and calling me less clear minded than an 8 year old won't change that.

doubled post by mistake ...
im not saying that you are less intelligent than a 8 year old; im saying that you are stubborn like it ....
instead of presenting new facts you just say that they are wrong and you will fight them ??

First of all let me tell you that your poll is wrong.... Poker is a game of chance that involve skills... in this order and if is played with real money is called gambling, if is with buttons is nothing. And is not a sport, otherwise we will place it on the Olympic games. Your government probably wants to avoid people losing all they posses in this.....But is just poker or all gambling games? Let me tell you that gambling is like a drug...once he get's you is forever... like GPRO...

To win at poker you need some luck but the way you play the hands are down to skill. Knowing when to bet, check, fold, raise is skill.

Fine, let's follow your analysis through...
10 players. Each dealt cards. Odds of them winning the hand: one in ten.
Result: Gambling game.
Or: Tournament:
1,000 players. The best player there's odds of winning it: about 1/900
Result: gambling game.
and yet...the ebst players will make money over a long enough period of hands >50% of the time.
So even using the ridiculous >50% definition (and it is a ridiculous notion) you still have very conflicting data.

Poker is not based on luck. For shorter terms (a day, or a week) yes. You can have very bad days or very bad weeks when you only lose. But it depends on your skill how MUCH you lose on those days.
In a month, or in a year, if you are better player, than your friend and if you played the same amounts of hand as him(but at least 1000-1500 hands), it's almost certain, that you had more profit in that month/year than him/her.
And poker made from some "avarage people" a millionaire. Ok, most of them had their money from a big tournament, where you need much luck. But they still play poker every day, and don't lose their money there, they just grow it. Because they are better players than most of the amateur pokerplayers.
"10 players. Each dealt cards. Odds of them winning the hand: one in ten.

Oh really? But if you are better player, you lose less in that hand, where you can't win, than the worse players. And you will win more in the hand, where you can win. Result: Skill based game.

The fact that you quote 1000-1500 hands as being an almost certainty tells me for certain that you don't really know what you're talking about.

Oh. And how about the other arguments in my post?
There are pro poker players. They get their money ONLY from poker. If it's just gambling, then how can they get their every day money ONLY from playing poker?

You don't even need to be a "pro".
There are a lot of single moms earning their money by playing poker online. They take care of the kids during the day and log on at night to play.

Go read the rest of the thread and come back to me. You may note that I haven't disagreed with anything you've said...beyond pointing out that insisting there's no element of luck in poker is a complete absurdity.
As is saying that the long run is 1000 hands. I mean, christ, the variance you'll get over 1,000 hands is HUGE. Without checking any figures I'd guess that the average player has a standard deviation of three or four times their actual earn rate over 1000 hands. FFS. 1,000 hands is nothing.

Bluffing isn't insane if you know how and when to do it ;)
It wouldn't be poker without bluffing.

Not true. End of discussion, unless you can back that up with evidence.

I wish...they are banning it, because they can't profit from it if it isn't in a casino with a gambling license.

In Finland, they are trying to nationalize online poker.
