Premier League Season 5 - Rounds 34 & 35

Premier League leaders Chelsea made very sure the title fight wouldn't come down to the final three matches, they won their Round 34 match, while both Southampton and Preston lost. Brighton's win over West Ham is crucial in both teams' campaign trying not to relegate. Round 35 didn't even end up being decisive, Chelsea needed one point but they got three, as both their challenges drew. Tottenham's win over Leicester pretty much confirm they are staying up, West Brom's absence means they will relegate after Season 5.

Chelsea are the Season 5 Premier League Fives Champions! After a chaotic first half of the season they've been playing brilliantly, never letting go of the lead. They scored 57 points in the last 22 matches, only losing once and drawing three times. FA Cup Winner Preston stay second, tied with Southampton but just two ahead of Huddersfield, there is a rating difference between finishing third and fourth so there is still something to fight for. Burnley, Bournemough and Wolverhampton are just three points apart, playing for 5th place and a 15-14 rating. Leicester keep falling and falling, down to 9th now, tied with Arsenal. Manchester United in 11th have a 9-point lead over Cardiff and Ipswich, Tottenham should also be safe from relegation.
The current relegation cutoff line is Liverpool in 18th on 30 points. Ahead of them are Brighton and Man City, on 31 points each, certainly in the relegation fight. Watford in P15 are on 35 points, so Liverpool needs to outscore them by five, they are on the safer side currently. West Ham United are 19th with 28 points, if they could find their winning ways again they can still have a chance. West Brom however are all but out, they need three wins and nothing less, it's safe to say we have one team relegating now.

Final Lower League Standings of Season 5

Queens Park Rangers win the Championship and return to the Premier League after relegating at the end of Season 3. They will hope to finish better than two seasons ago, when they ended the 42-round season with 16 points. Swansea City clinch second place ahead of Nottingham Forest, the latter making their debut in the Fives Premier League.

Neither Portsmouth nor Hull City waste their sizeable lead and the two safely qualify promote to the Championship. By virtue of goal difference, Fleetwood Town take third place, as them and Peterborough United both end the season on 24 draws. Charlton and Wycombe finish identical seasons and their head-to-head result determines the order between the two teams.

Losing just six of 46 matches, Salford City's League One victory is well deserved. Bradford and Forest Green follow them up to the third tier.

The Premier League title may not be on the in this year's Final Tripleheader but most teams still have the opportunity to gain another Rating for the new season. West Brom didn't choose to fight it out and instead will end the season last with 23 points. Both Preston and Southampton win their match in the battle for second place, Chelsea and Huddersfield also extend their good streaks. Watford and Leicester also win, the remaining four matches were all ties, notably Brighton and Bournemouth managed to score a point while being 2 Ratings down.

Preston, Southampton and Huddersfield are still within 2 points after all three of them have won their match. Burnley, Bournemouth and Wolverhampton are still within 3 points after all three of them have drew their match. Leicester and Watford gain one place each, earning them another rating for the time being. Watford are now officially safe from relegation, Liverpool are 2, West Ham 4 points below the cutoff line with 2 matches to go.

Premier League Season 5 - Round 37

Chelsea don't win! Their winning streak stops at 6 (longest being 9 between Rounds 14 and 22) after not finding all three points away from home against Bournemouth. Southampton defeat Preston in a huge clash between second place hopefuls, while Huddersfield keep up with a 3-0, non-forfeit win over Watford. This round featured two relegation battles, Liverpool defeated Brighton, but West Ham couldn't get it done against Man City which ends their current tenure in the Premier League.

Southampton take a 2-point lead over Huddersfield, three over Preston as the former two both found a Round 37 win, while the latter was defeated. P5, P6, P7 are on 5 points from the last six matches, any one of Burnley, Bournemouth and Wolverhampton can still get fifth. Newcastle take back 8th place from Leicester, Man United try to close the gap and take 10th from Arsenal. Ipswich look favorites to win the second half of the table now, with a 2-point lead over Cardiff and Tottenham. West Ham United might still get 18th but will not stay up in the Premier League, the final relegation spot will be decided among Liverpool (on 33 points), Manchester City (33) and Brighton (32).
Brighton play Huddersfield away from home and they need to outscore Manchester City (who play Man United at home) or Liverpool (who play Newcastle away from home).

Premier League Season 5 - Round 38

Chelsea finish off the season with their 26th win from 38 matches, ending with a very impressive 88 points in a tumultuous season. Southampton cannot do the same, drawing Burnley away from home, but their challengers, Huddersfield and Preston both can. Liverpool get one point while being 2 behind, Cardiff manage to win with their rating disadvantage. The Manchester Derby ends with City winning, Leicester defeat Wolverhampton despite a 5-6 loss in the first slot. West Ham's last Premier League match ends with a forfeit 3-0 win over West Brom.

Chelsea are now officially the third Champions of Premier League Fives, after Manchester City winning in Season 1, then Leicester City in Seasons 2, 3 and 4. Their 14-point lead were made in the second half of the season, following a really close first half with Preston North End and Southampton alternating the lead. Chelsea took first place after Round 16 and never let it go, solidifying their lead with a 21-round unbeaten streak.
Southampton were the real surprise of this season, starting with 14-13 Ratings (10th favorites of Season 5) they started the season with a second place and never fell outside the Top 3. Their reward is 16-14 as starting Ratings and who knows what that might mean for these underdogs. They end the season on 74 points, same as Huddersfield Town, who pulled off one of the great comebacks this year. They were 19th after 2 Rounds, only 8th at the halfway point, only broke into the Top 5 after Round 29. Then they won 10 of the last 11 matches to reach the podium today. For them to win, Preston had to lose, they were in the Top 3 all season, leading the Premier League three times until Round 14. Ultimately it's 4th place for them, one Rating less than the previous two teams, but not quite, as Preston won the FA Cup for the first time in their Fives history.
Burnley become the best of the rest with 5th place and 63 points, ten behind Preston. A very consistent team, they spent most of the season in 5th place or one above/below. Bornemouth finish 6th, they weren't in the Top 3 either, and only once outside the Top 10, after Round 2. Scoring just 6 points in the last 9 rounds, Wolverhampton lose two places to finish 7th, ahead of defending champions and most underachieving team Leicester City.
After some back and forth late in the season, Newcastle cannot clinch the Top 8 and will keep their 14-13 Ratings for Season 6, still an overachievement as they finished 13th in Season 4. Manchester United and Arsenal finish middle of the table, safe from the bottom 9's relegation battles. Cardiff City were 15th as late as Round 25 but a 4W-3D-1L turned their season around and won the 'lower' table, just ahead of Ipswich Town, the best of three teams who were considered to be bottom three before the season.
At some point, Tottenham were one of the most brilliant teams in the league, knocking on the Top 10's door after winning the Championship last season. But six forfeits put their season in danger until their fine return to finish the season 14th. Another great comeback story is Watford's, they were in the relegation zone between Rounds 12 and 27, then won five matches to secure their place before the final tripleheader.
Last year's 6th place Manchester City were in real bad shape for most of the season, they were down but never out (the Top 18) and with an unbeaten streak of five, they kept their Premier League status. Liverpool finish 17th, last of the teams who stay up, an early Top 10 contender who just couldn't get their season going after that, falling further and further down, stopping at 18th place and eventually gaining back that crucial one position.
West Ham United go back to the Championship right away, although they had a good streak around 14th position, they finish with a record high of 17 draws and just 5 wins. It looked like Brighton were out of the hole before the final few rounds, but they got only one point tonight and lost three positions. West Brom found their first win in Round 19, then it looked like they could catch up to the rest of the field but stopped fighting and now they finish last in Season 5.
