Good, I have found a Dakar topic, so I will revive it for this year's edition.
Latest news:
-French motobiker Pascal Terry died, he didn't got the help he needed, died because of a lung oedema.
-Nasser Al-Attiyah led the Rally after yesterday, but got disqualified because he missed some of the checkpoints on the way.
-Carlos Sainz leads the Rally now for VW, he won the 7th day with the rally coming to Valparaiso in Chile.
-He won the stage with 3:41 Minutes before teammate Mark Miller, and Robby Gordon in the big Hummer is in 3rd, losing 4:13 Minutes on Sainz.
-In the standings, Sainz leads with 9 secs! before Teammate De Villiers, and 13:53 infront of Miller, a Triple lead for VW!
Further, from the official page of the Dakar Rally:
-Worthy of note, the 9 times winner of the event Stéphane Peterhansel again suffered problems today. After a fire in the engine of his Mitsubishi Racing Lancer, the Frenchman has now lost all chance of grabbing a 10th victory on his 20th Dakar. In the Open category, Robby Gordon (Hummer) was again victorious and is the undisputed category leader in the general standings. Finally, in the Production category, Japanese driver Jun Mitsuhashi (Toyota) won the stage, but still only managed to claw back 10.20 on Frenchman Nicolas Gibon (Toyota) who retains a solid lead in the category in the general standings.

Why is it still called "Dakar". I think the Organization must change the name, for Rally Argentina-Chile. They left Dakar because of threats and terrorism

I think because Dakar Rally has old traditions, and changing the name would harm rally spirit...
BTW.: 2009 rally isn't so good for me as 2007, though LTU PETRAITIS team shows quite good results, + our new comentator sucks ;)

Latest news:
-Again 2 deaths at the dakar rally. In an accident in Chile died 2 persons, a truck from the Dakar organisation seemed to have been involved in it. The truck ignored the priority at a street and collided with a car. It seems like the victims were in the car.
That's not very good. They moved to South Amerika and still people die:(

Carlos Sainz will not be the winner of the 2009 Dakar. On km 79 of today’s special stage, he drove his Race Touareg slap straight into a dried-out rio, and ended up on the roof three meters lower. Michel Périn got out of car 301 with a broken shoulder. The consultation of the doctor rushed to the scene put an end to the anxiety of the Spaniard who still thought he would be able to keep driving: this is where the race stops for him.

Thanks, it said nothing on the Dakar site and I was wondering what happened. To bad this happened to him when he was so close to winning it. One mistake and it`s all gone.

To bad
For me, Carlos is very silly.
He leads with more than 27 minutes, and could taking it easy enough, but no, he doesn't look and crashes.
I think I could expect more from a Rally driver with that much experiance:(
Okay, you can shoot me now:P
