Hello good fellows,
I'm in the following situation:
- I started racig last season, last 2 or 3 races
- stupidly signed a new driver for 17 races before the last race of last season, putting me now in a spot where I need to resign with my current driver or sign a new one after the next race/before the last season race (if I want to race, that is)
- For this post, please consider I have no more chances of going to Amateur this season (even though I actually have)
- I would like to resign my current driver
- the driver OA increased through the season, but I was counting that I would put his motivation down to 0 and be able to resign him
- now that I was about to do that, I can't (or apparently I can't) because I'm $0,5 million in the negative
- my topic title questions are actually related to these doubts:
A) is there a way to make money now, before the next race, taking me out of the negative, so I could actually be able to update my car and make my driver's motivation to zero?
B) Do I need to be in positive financial status in order to extend my driver's contract? I believe so, but it would be my first time doing tat, just asking....
C) if answer to question B is "yes", than I'm screwed, arent I? Because even if I can get back to positive staus, I can't extend the contract right away because it would be too high of an OA, and if I update my car in order to make the motivation 0 and adjust the OA, by then I would be in negative status again and unable to extend te drivers contract anyway.

Right so race next race as normal, don't spend any money, you'll get positive
After that spend until you reach -15m, even go further down, down to -25m, this will guarantee that the driver will get under 85OA and stay there (if his Moti isn't too low)
Then after the reset you resign your driver fingers crossed
|
|
|
A) You can sell faciliies at half price, if you have any. B)You can't extend the contract being negative
D) What Kyle said.

But I have only 1 more race in the contract, I can't wait until before the next race to extend the contract, can I?
And even if I could do that, it wouldn't work, because after the next race, I would be in positive, but the OA would still be too high. In order to make it low I'd need to be in negative, therefore being unable to pay for the contract extension, no?

I failed to note that oops... In which case i do believe its way too little too late unfortunately Quote ( Tomek Kiełpiński @ September 29th 2018,20:56:31 ) A) You can sell faciliies at half price, if you have any.
Can you? I thought downgrading doesn't give back money?

I think I saw this in the forum once, but I can't find such option. Maybe it only works when you finish the season and still are in negative situation. Apparently you can't sell it before season ending (or at least I couldn't find how).

Go under -15 now (yes, you can!), drop driver mot to 0, loose the driver, if still available sign him after the reset.
Edit: You can't sell facilities. I was wrong. Thea above solution is only valid.

So you're saying that there is either options to spend money in the game even when you're already in negative or that there is a way to make money and after that go -15, right? Even though the way you said it made it sound more like the first option...
I can't do anything regarding a driver. I cant trainstaff or upgrade facilities. I can't update the car. Is it testing? Never did it before...I imagined it would be a one time thing, but that's the only option I see left.
The other bad news is that testing wears off the car and because I cant upgrade it, Im afraid I will not finish the next race if I run those many tests.

So as others have pointed out you can't prevent loosing the driver after the next race. What you can do however is to bring his moti down to 0 and hope nobody bids on him until after season reset (given your forum post chances are low however).
Think of something you still can do while being negative? Can you bid on drivers? Does that cost money?
However I don't think you should hold onto your driver, better race as normal get back to positive, find a team, which helps you to find a better driver.

I've been wanting to join a team for a while now, ut it costs money, doesn't it? And how exactly does it help finding a better driver? Through advise of team mates and/or help in the search only, right? there is nothing in practice that the game does and that helps you finding a better driver when youre in a team, is there?

Gustavo, at the moment you think and plan from race to race. That is fully ok for newbies. But please consider to think and plan more in advance. A lot of players are trying to plan a complete season in advance. Joining a team costs you money, but it is a one time fee. So if you are in Rookie and are not going to promote to Amateur, you can easily afford the money due to the reset at the end of the season. Please also note that being a member of a team gives you some amount of income at the end of the season (game rules, paragraph 6.4). Managers that stay in Rookie do NOT receive this income. And you are right, one of the main aspects of a team is to share knowledge among team members. And this aspect is very valuable !

You can‘t waiting for after next race. After next race you will lost your driver, You can‘t down the driver motivation anymore to resign with him.
Even if you had -15m now (it's possible if you make some offers in the driver market), it would be too late. The driver lose his motivation only after qualifying is closed, shortly before the race, and you are not able to renew with a negative balance. Immediately after the next race, the driver will no longer be with you, and with a OA 101, it is impossible to re-sign him with a new offer. Even with an OA 85, the competition around this driver would be so big that it makes no sense, because the probably high salary.
Sign a new driver next race, with a good salary. Maybe you need too take one with lower OA, training him next season and promote only S68. And resign his contract immediately for another 17 races.

Quote ( Sebastian Dietrich @ September 29th 2018,22:44:22 ) Immediately after the next race, the driver will no longer be with you, and with a OA 101
Wrong, it would be 79. Drivers lose their motivation from -15m balances during the pre-race script. However, as he's in rookie he would certainly STILL have a negative balance after the next race and therefor only be able to make offers on drivers with <70 OA. So, he has ZERO options of resigning him UNLESS that driver remains without a manager after the reset.
From the rules :
If you have a negative balance, you can only extend a contract if the Driver's OA is below the following limits: Elite group: 110 Master group: 100 Pro group: 90 Amateur group: 80 Rookie group: 70
My advice to the OP'er is to forget about this driver AT LEAST until the reset. I'd do the negative thing only if you absolutely want to try and have him next season. However, be aware that someone might poach him before R17 - and the chances of that have been increased probably what with this thread existing on the public forum....so, don't hold out too much hope on him being available after reset.
Best of luck with the game buddy, a lesson learnt for you here is the importance of planning your driver's contract - its quite often the first thing a rookie faces up to so you're absolutely not alone so keep learning and stick at it! :)

My question is though: "Why would you want to resign a fat 92kg, 30 year old anyway" There are literally 100s of better options for Rookie managers

should be right if his balance was -15m . At the moment his balance is -534.905! So the driver don‘t lose motivation.
And it makes no sense a -15m balance if he will lose the driver after the race and this isn't sure he can sign with the driver again.

I don't think its a good idea to make a debate out of a rookie in their opening season so probably not much point on "why"...what matters for this guy is learning about the importance of management and ensuring in future that he secures his drivers contract in the smoothest manner. Its the single thing all rookies must learn, usually quite early.

He could make 50 offers and delete them on drivers <70 OA and he will have a balance of -25 million on top of his current balance. His driver will then lose ALL his motivation.

Sure Stuart, I appreciate what you are saying But I am also trying to advise him in the right direction as well, & simply point out that there would be many better options in the market than his current driver. I think he has learnt his mistake of not immediately extending the drivers contract.
We both know that most Rookies place too much emphasis on OA when choosing drivers rather than the actual stats.
Edit: BTW Gustavo when you find a driver you are considering, please feel free to PM me the link. I will happily point out the good, the bad & the ugly for you. So I can point you in the right direction on driver choice for long term. Cheers

So mate, we all make ours mistakes at begin (and later too). So, don't be sad about the driver. Do it like "Frozen" and "Let it go"!. You will find another good driver, and with a better planing, He can stay by you for a long time. Good luck!
