Welcome to a glorious day at St Andrews for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championships. Not a breath of wind, very sunny and as per usual some huge numbers of spectators as the first group prepares to set off. I think we might be in for some lovely golf today – let us waut and see

|
Alan steps out first and is full of confidence as he plays some regulation golf on the front nine and returns an error free 9 holes. He continues that through to the back nine and grabs a Birdie early on. The round never gets to any other heights as he finishes on a disappointing 1 Under Par as he fully expected more.

Roy follows on and he plays some similar good golf but grabs himself 2 Birdies on the front nine. He loses a bit of concentration as he drops a Double Bogey but soon gets back on track and picks up 3 Birdies before he ends the day on a nice 3 Under Par. Back to winning ways after a bad run of 10 mediocre rounds.

Kyle brings up the rear of the trio and has a steady regulation nine holes that include a Birdie towards the turn. On the back nine he does drop a Double Bogey but the rest of his round is impressive as he picks up 4 Birdies and a lovely Eagle to end his day on a score of 67 and 5 Under Par to set the target in the Club House. An improvement on his last few rounds, he feels happy.

Greg was next out and he played a very steady front nine with no errors and threw in a nice little Birdie halfway through. Onto the back nine and although he dropped a Bogey, he then went 5 holes in a row with Birdies which took his score to 67 and 5 Under Par for the day

Mike followed on and had a similar front nine with no mistakes but he grabbed himself 2 Birdies on the front nine. His back nine started badly as he dropped a Double Bogey but then he picked it up again with 2 Eagles midway through and that brought him back to a reasonable score of 68 and 4 Under Par

Eduardo started very solid as he made no errors on the front nine with regulation golf. He made an error not long after the turn as he dropped a Double Bogey, but then he regained his composure and before long grabbed a Birdie followed by a lovely Eagle on the last to finish his day on 1 Under Par.

David was similar on the front nine with steady regulation golf as he went error free. He also dropped a Double Bogey early on but brought it back as he picked off 3 Birdies in 4 holes and then followed that on the last hole with a nice Eagle to bring his score to 69 and 3 Under Par. A tidy round but he knows it was not enough.

Gavin wanted more as he started and he went an error free front nine which also included a Birdie. He started the back nine just as well as he picked up another 3 Birdies and a lovely Eagle, but threw away that good work as he lost concentration on the last hole and dropped a Bogey to go into the Club House on 5 Under Par and a tie for the lead

Dave started his round full of confidence and it showed as he grabbed himself a couple of Birdies early on for an error free front nine. His back nine was very similar with some very solid play and again he made no errors on the back nine and also picked up another couple of Birdies as he came back in with a score of 68 and 4 Under Par.

John started with some solid regulation golf as he confidently grabbed himself a Birdie on an error free front nine. He lost a little bit of concentration after the turn as he dropped a Double Bogey but soon got back to some steady golf as he followed that with Birdie, Eagle, Eagle to finish his day on a 68 and 4 Under Par.

Mark finished off the trio but struggled even in the good conditions as he had an up and down round. His front nine contained a Double Bogey and a Birdie. At the turn he then picked up an Eagle, but dropped another Double Bogey, but he did have a Birdie either side of that so after this mixed round, he finished on a score of 71 and 1 Under Par

Jens made his way to the tee and played some very steady golf to start with as he went error free on the front nine. He wavered a little as hr dropped a Bogey on the turn but then he came right back with an Eagle, a Birdie and another Eagle to finish the day on a score of 68 and 4 Under Par

Matthew began very solidly with no mistakes on the front nine and even pulled a shot out of the bag to grab a Birdie half way through. His back nine was similar as he was very solid and picked up another 3 Birdies along the way and then finished on the last hole with a lovely Eagle and came back with a great score of 66 and 6 Under Par for the Club House lead
https://i.imgur.com/e7qcBCU.png
Marvin went the same way as most did on their front nines and he was steady with no mistakes and even grabbed a Birdie halfway through the front nine. His back nine contained a Double Bogey but he also picked up another couple of Birdies as he came home with a score of 71 and 1 Under Par.

On a day when the pins were well placed and weather was fine, Tony struggled to be consistent as he was steady enough on the front nine and collected a nice Birdie. He struggled to get better on the back nine as he dropped a Double Bogey and eventually finished on a score of 73 and 1 Over Par.

Jorge stepped onto the tee and went away like a steam train as he picked off 2 Eagles and then 3 Birdies in 4 holes to finish off his front nine. His back nine was almost as good although he did drop a Double Bogey, but he had 2 Birdies in front of that and after he had another Birdie and an Eagle to card a score of an amazing 62 and a course record of 10 Under Par. Amazing day
https://i.imgur.com/P1vaRXs.png
Thomas started really well with a front nine of no mistakes and to make it better, he grabbed a Wonderful Hole in One just before the turn. His back nine started well as he grabbed 4 Birdies but his final 2 holes were a Bogey and a Double Bogey as he finished his day on a score of 69 and 3 Under Par. It could have been a great round.
https://i.imgur.com/fth8KpS.png
Chew started his round nicely with no mistakes on the front nine and a nice Birdie in the middle. He went to the back nine and continued the good play as he grabbed another 2 Birdies before he finished his round for a score of 69 and 3 Under Par

Next up from his recent runaway victory Stéphane really struggled with the course as he dropped a Double Bogey halfway through the front nine but then grabbed an Eagle before the turn. From there he really struggled with a Bogey and another Double Bogey to put him on a finish of 3 Over Par for the day and a mile away from his recent rounds.
https://i.imgur.com/lXWcBBL.png
Missing from the last Major, Kaiko came back onto the tour, but it didn’t show as he coped with the front nine with ease and no mistakes as well as a Birdie halfway through the front nine. His back nine was the better half as although he dropped a Double Bogey early on, he then went on a run of 6 holes with Birdie, Eagle, Birdie, Birdie, Eagle and Birdie to take him to an impressive score of 65 and 7 Under Par.
https://i.imgur.com/nCkA3Kh.png
Having dominated the opening season, Sheri was now struggling with form although she started brightly with a couple of Birdies but finished the front nine with a Bogey. From the turn it was all down hill as she could not get any rhythm and dropped another 6 Bogeys and 3 Double Bogeys to finish a very disappointing 11 Over Par.

The final trio out on the course and Vin had a steady regulation front nine with no mistakes and grabbed an Eagle halfway through. His back nine never really got going and it was just solid regulation golf with no errors but nothing great as he finished on a score of 70 and 2 Under Par
https://i.imgur.com/A4OeqFb.png
Tim was determined to grab himself a great score but it never really got there as he had a mixed round. The front nine was solid with a Birdie. The back nine had a Double Bogey but it also had a further 2 Birdies to get him back to that steady score of 71 and 1 Under Par.
https://i.imgur.com/7rOA3he.png
Last man out on the course and Dave started very well as he was solid and grabbed himself 3 Birdies in a row before the turn. His back started ok as he picked off another Birdie but then he went on a run of Eagle, Birdie, Birdie Eagle which brought his card to a score of 62 and equalled the record set earlier. He was an amazing 10 Under Par and there was going to be a Play Off.

The dust had finally settled and 2 players strode to the first play off hole as the crowds bayed and cheered and were ecstatic with the prospect of more golf to come.
|
|
|
Off to the first play off hole and both players send the tee shot straight down the middle of the fairway and both very long. Short irons to the green for both players as Jorge strikes his ball well and lands it about 4 foot short of the pin – glorious shot.
Dave takes his time and plays a wonderful short iron and the ball lands just inside the first one – honours even.
Neither putt was missed as they both strode off to the next hole

It is still Jorge’s honour so he steps up to the tee and plays a wonderful shot down the middle of the fairway. Dave follows him and puts his ball about a couple of metres longer, but just on the right side of the fairway.
Jorge’s second shot is a bit fat but makes its way to just short of the green. It must be catching as Dave fluffs hit shot to only 60 or 70 yards down the fairway and into the light rough. It is going to be a difficult shot from there.
