THUMBS UP if you agree with the leagues below.
THUMBS DOWN if you disagree with the leagues below.
THE GPRO CHESS LEAGUE
All league games will be played on a 10 minute time limit, with 5 second increments. New leagues will be announced once this league is up and running :)
Each league has a deadline of 30 days to complete their group matches. After the 30 days, PPG will come into play, and we will move straight to play-offs, where you are given 14 days to finish. After the 14 days is up, whoever is the most active on the thread will be given priority over the other player.
Grandmaster League
Top 8 of the current ELO table will be placed in the Grandmaster League. Each player will play two games with their opponent (1 as white, and 1 as black). The Top 4 will then go into a bracket-style tournament to determine the winner of the season. 1st will play 4th, and 2nd will play 3rd. The higher ranked player will choose the side they would like to start on for the first game and the time limit they prefer. The winner of the two matches will square up in a First to Two Points match. Same rules apply. The winner of the mini tournament will win immunity from relegation and the relegation play-off for next season.
The bottom player will be automatically relegated to the league below, while the 7th place finisher will play in the final play-off game from the IM League play-offs for their place in the league.
IM League
The next 8 players will be placed in the IM League. Each player will play two games with their opponent (1 as white, and 1 as black). 1st place in this league will have automatic promotion to the Grandmaster League. 2nd - 4th place will be placed in a bracket-style tournament. 3rd will play 4th first. The higher ranked player will choose the side they would like to start on for the first game and the time limit they prefer. The winner of that game will be the 2nd placed player of the IM League in the exact same format. The winner of that match will square up with 7th place finisher of the Grandmaster League in a First to Two Points match. Same rules apply. The winner of the mini tournament will go to the Grandmaster League, while the loser goes to the IM League.
The bottom player will be automatically relegated to the league below, while the 7th place finisher will play in the final play-off game from the FIDE League for their place in the league.
FIDE League
The next 8 players will be placed in the FIDE League. Each player will play two games with their opponent (1 as white, and 1 as black). 1st place in this league will have automatic promotion to the IM League. 2nd - 4th place will be placed in a bracket-style tournament. 3rd will play 4th first. The higher ranked player will choose the side they would like to start on for the first game and the time limit they prefer. The winner of that game will be the 2nd placed player of the FIDE League in the exact same format. The winner of that match will square up with 7th place finisher of the IM League in a First to Two Points match. Same rules apply. The winner of the mini tournament will go to the IM League, while the loser goes to the FIDE League.
The bottom player will be automatically relegated to the league below, while the 7th place finisher will play in the final play-off game from the Amateur League for their place in the league.
Amateur League
The rest of the players will be placed in the Amateur League. Each player will play two games with their opponent (1 as white, and 1 as black). 1st place in this league will have automatic promotion to the FIDE League. 2nd - 4th place will be placed in a bracket-style tournament. 3rd will play 4th first. The higher ranked player will choose the side they would like to start on for the first game and the time limit they prefer. The winner of that game will be the 2nd placed player of the Amateur League in the exact same format. The winner of that match will square up with 7th place finisher of the FIDE League in a First to Two Points match. Same rules apply. The winner of the mini tournament will go to the FIDE League, while the loser goes to the Amateur League.
There are no relegations from this league.
Deadline for votes will be at Monday 5th April 2021 at 20:00CET :)

Quote ( Jun Ho @ March 29th 2021,12:37:10 ) The higher ranked player will choose (...) the time limit they prefer.
Any time limit goes, whether it is a 1 minute bullet game or a 30 min? And time limit stands for both games, or the lower ranked player gets to pick the time limits for the 2nd game?

Yup that is correct.

In chess games the better player wins the most. Could be 1 unlucky game, but I think we need to make the games more equal. Im thinking in my position a normal chess player playing againt 1800 ELO players. Im 1400 so they are really better than me, in bullet im around 1100, so i cant make a single funny game.

I disagree, I met lots of players who I usually beat in blitz but can't win a single game in bullet against them.

Well bullet is not chess, don't you think?
I upvoted the league proposal but would limit the elligible time controls to something reasonable (anything between 5 to 30 minutes per side).

Very well known grandMasters play this game in known chess plattforms, against other players, even against other GMs. It might be not chess like you said, but it still chess because it allow you to think faster and move faster the mouse in 2-3-5mins games. Which is pretty important.
Obviously were not GMs, but many people still play this ;)

My idea behind the higher seeds choosing their preferred time limits is to give people an incentive on finishing higher in the table rather than settling for a 4th place finish. We can most definitely maybe give an option to limit the time limit changes to 5+2, 10+1 or 15+0?

Bullet is... different kind of chess, but still chess. If we go that way, some might argue that blitz is not chess either.
But my point was that time control matters in who of the given two players wins, so the varying time control is a bad idea imo.
I see you suggest to limit it from below, and it's a fair point. But I'd also limit it from above. I don't have the time to play two 30 mins per side games against each of my opponents. Not to mention that someone might pick 3h per side and I surely won't be able to accomodate that in my schedule (hopefully I get to be the higher seed and pick 1 minute instead mwahahaha).
I don't see what's wrong with staying at fixed time control. (I'd choose fixed time control with increment though, like 10+2 or 7+5, but that's a secondary matter)

Well, great minds think alike? :D

Hahaha yeah :D
A list of reasonable time controls to choose from sounds good to me.

I'm sorry but different time controls are not chess at all and really does change the ELO system if you have apples and oranges.
A chess tournament has one set time controls -- period. A league can have different tournaments at one set time control and another tournament or section at a different time control, but all of us have different ideas of what we would prefer the time control to be. If you don't like the time control, then simple - just don't play in that tournament.
Varying the time control cast doubt on the whole process. You can't make everyone happy by saying you get to choose the time control.
You can't allow one player to set the time control. it is unfair to the opponent. it is either set or agreed upon by both players. This sets up some wonky ELO and scoring.
Quote ( Jun Ho @ March 29th 2021,12:37:10 ) The higher ranked player will choose the side they would like to start on for the first game and the time limit they prefer. that will be white and whatever time I am best at or the time my opponent doesn't want. 40moves /2 hours.
I'm going to further say that perhaps a Swiss Style might be better 5 rounds?

I agree with this actually, and was the reason why the current groups are all restricted to 10 minute games. I wouldn't want to do a Swiss style round for the leagues, as there will be tournaments running between and the leagues should run for at most one whole GPRO season's length :D

I want to play bullet maches, I want to see how hard I can throw my bishop into my opponents face, and if this will give me 10 or more seconds advantage.
By the way chess.com gave me 10 points back in my bullet elo cause of cheating... one guy cheating at this pace deserves a prize, not a ban :P

I play bullet with you ok, 1+0 is good , ? When you want
