Live TV coverage for every stage if I understood correctly.

Can't wait! I heard Monte is amping up its slipperiness already.

Sounds like my sources were correct. Ogier with a spin + apparently Tänak, Neuville, Evans and Sordo with crashes or other ditch visits in 1st stage :S

E: Lol and two spins for Latvala.

Who do you think is going to win World Rally Championship 2018?

1. Sébastien Ogier
2. Sébastien Loeb

They both have dominated the WRC like no other. Although Loeb holds 9 titles which is 4 more than Ogier's.

Loeb won't participate in the full season, so the favourite is clear ;)

Though Lappi, Latvala or Tänak can also get the shot.

Anyone going to Rally Finland or Rally GB this year? I’m going for the full Finland weekend and probably going to the Thursday and Saturday of GB. So if anyone happens to be in Jyvaskyla we could definitely get a drink

Well done to them :) Respect to what Loeb and Ogier did but I was waiting who would broke this French streak. I wonder if Neuville can somehow end his streak of finishing 2nd at standings because this year it will be 4th consecutive year(5th total)

Fun fact: WRC has a champion who is not named Sebastian and not French for the first time since 2003. Strange, isn't it?

Well the Seb domination is sandwiched by titles from people with a double t in their first name.

Tanak deserves this title and deserved last years too, he’s been the best driver no doubt but that Yaris has made it harder than it should of.

Same thing that Gulf Porsche had to hear from me already: if Verstappen winning the F1 title was big for the Dutch, then this is just as big for Finns. First drivers' title in 20 years!

Time to revive this thread after the Monte Carlo rally which ended today. Neuville won and looked like the man to beat. It looked like an asphalt rally rather than snow/ice with asphalt. There were few places which had ice and it was enough to cause trouble for some drivers. Next rally is at Sweden so proper snow/ice time and we might see some changes at the order.

On a final note, this new point system is confusing,I couldn't figure out who scored how much until I saw final standings at the end of event.

Well, that's confusing and I'll try to tell. From what I understand, top 10 get points from Saturday standings,if they are able to finish the rally on Sunday. Sunday is kind of seperate day as far as I'm aware so,being in top 7 gives you additional points. There is power stage that didn't change from last seasons.

I think they also got rid of power stage points for WRC 2 since Rossel was fastest of WRC2 in power stage but scored less than Lopez and Gryazin, despite winning the category overall.

This is an attempt to make Sunday more competitive since drivers were easing through Sunday till power stage, especially when the gap to front and back are big but this brings another problem in my opinion. You might win the rally but you can score less points than someone who finish 2nd/3rd Satuday and fastest on Sunday, which is quite odd.

At least based on Monte, this change worked.

In the following rallies, this scenario is quite possible.

Agreed that this idea seemed to work to get Sundays more competitive.

But the graphics in the TV broadcasts should have also had some kind of Sunday-standings. Now there was no announcement before or after the power stage that how the 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Sunday standings points would go? I had to calculate that myself in Excel before power stage :D Instead they were showing the overall standings which were now made meaningless*.

Making Sunday less of a tyre save fest worked and I liked that, but as long as Sunday is paying even that many points, they'd really need to move more of the stages to Sunday so that there are more stage kilometers, like 33% of the rally. Now there was only 16% of full rally on Sunday that paid max. 7 Sunday points and 5 Power stage points. Might as well change the Power Stage start time to around 15-18 CET in that case because you can't stack the morning up with twice the stages either.

*Not that it should be meaningless, the whole rally overall winner should still be awarded when now it is not lol. Perhaps handing out the Saturday points rather for the overall standings after Sunday could help. I guess WRC then might expect there to be bit more tyre saving in Sunday but not as much as before. But even that would not be so, if there was more teams...

Edit: Also woop, great drive from Neuville!

I think if they will keep this system, they will tweak some parts at least for future seasons. I don't know if WRC is proactive on mid-season regulation changes but I don't expect this point system to be completely shelved unless someone find the bug of the system straight away in next rallies.

He was the one to beat in Monte Carlo but I'm not sure if he can repeat this in Rally Sweden, scandinavians are returning for this rally. Last champion Rovanperä is my favourite to win Rally Sweden.

Cmon Esapekka! That was a long wait since 2017, so many heartbreaks and close moments in between but finally another Rally win \o/ This shall be celebrated. #nevergiveup

Well not really a bug yet in this second rally, but still a bit funny that a) rally winner collects I assume 2nd or 3rd most points from the rally and b) There's max. 18 points on offer from Thursday's, Friday's and Saturday's 15 stages (239 km) and still max. 12 points on offer from Sunday's 3 stages (61 km). Not to mention if for some reason (eg. someone crashing out) they cancel one of the Sunday's stages, then it's even lower kilometers.

There's not "enough" bugs in it to change it mid-season so I'd assume this year will stay with this system. But they could make the Sundays a bit longer even mid-season as not all the rallies have yet locked their final routes.

E.P was able to wait for his second rally victory.
It was a long wait but it was definitely all the sweeter. Since Ott did not do well this time, I believe that many Estonian rally fans supported him.

What a contrast this time compared to Monte Carlo rally. We had rather unexpected results. Nice win from Esapekka and shame for Takamoto,he looked like he could challenge and maybe get his first ever win. He is good around Kenya so next time,he might finally win,who knows :)

Hats off to Adrian Formaux and Oliver Solberg with their performances. Championship favourites had troubled rally, especially Ott Tanak and he is well behind Elfyn Evans and Thierry Neuville now,not good for him.
