Genova is my city. I'll tell you a little curiosity, the invention of jeans is not American, as is often thought, but Italian.
The first mention is traced back to the city of Genoa in the sixteenth century and more precisely to the ancient port where this blue canvas was created and used for the manufacture of ship sails and for tarpaulins, as it is very resistant, durable and easily washable.
The term blue jeans probably derives from the phrase “Blue de Genes” that is blue of Genoa.
With the great emigrations, around the nineteenth century, the blue canvas of Genoa arrived in America where it was used to create work clothes for miners.
And this is where the original name changed from in blue jeans.
The term jeans was then used to design not the fabric but a model of trousers.
In fact, it was in 1873 that the first denim jeans was born thanks to Levi Strauss who opened a shop of objects for gold prospectors in San Francisco and using denim he created the first jeans with a tailor.
Later the cowboys of the Far West used the fabric to make not only the trousers but also the sturdy jackets.
From here began the use of jeans almost everywhere, becoming a garment used by the military, by Garibaldi troops, by film actors (Marlon Brando and James Dean were among the first), by university students and finally making his entry into the world of fashion.
Furthermore, Genoa is the birthplace of Christopher Columbus

Just a tip to everyone here you can embed YouTube videos by [youtube]videoid[/youtube (insert a bracket here to close the bracket)
You only need the video id not the complete link
But then, at least on my system, you cannot go fullscreen to enjoy the video at it's best. I prefer a link that I can click and go fullscreen thanks. :)

My understanding is that the name derives from the town of Nimes in France. "denim itself was first produced in the French city of Nîmes under the name serge de Nîmes." from Wikipedia
