This is going to annoy a lot of people, but I feel certain anthems are disproportionally longer than others. I guess this is because those anthems are traditionally longer in the real world. It would just be fair if everyones anthem had a similar playtime.

A particularly long one is Argentina's, which is a lovely piece of music but it appears to finish 4 separate times and then keeps going, for 4, almost 5 minutes. I'm not singling this out, and saying "make that one shorter" it's just the best example I have, so please don't kill me Flo! I enjoy hearing all the anthems, but perhaps these long ones can be replaced with abridged ones in the interest of fairness?

What do you suggest the maximum length be then Chris?

No one's forcing you to listen to the anthem. And in some cultures, interrupting or modifying (including shortening) an anthem can be considered rude. And who are you to tell anyone that they can't enjoy their 4, maybe even 5, minutes in the spotlight?

So now the length of a countries anthem is a matter of fairness if it's too long for you?

This sounds like one of those "We're all winners" fairness things. Rodrigo has a good idea, find the mute button.

My browser used to have a button to mute the incoming audio, not sure if it's still there but I've used that in past.

doubt so...there is no sound of motors during the race, so the speakers can be eventually off...and you can also click on close button of winners pop up window ...
Some people just love to hear their national anthem...especially if they win

But I would be fine to have an option to choose between listening of the anthems or Sweet Caroline from Neil Diamond. To celebrate the finish line crossing... :-D

Some of us have nothing else to celebrate after race :-P

Why is the Argentina national anthem shortened?

THE first Argentinian anthem was composed as early as 1810, before it was adopted as the official song three years later following the Revolution.

Its lyrics were written by the Buenos Aires-born Vicente Lopez y Planes, whilst the music was composed by a Spaniard, Blas Parera.

There is a long, anti-Spain section in the middle of the piece which has been omitted since 1924 - and the whole piece is extremely long.

As a result, in the Olympics, rugby games and at the World Cup, only the instrumental introduction (which lasts 1 minute 6 seconds) is played.

Ok, perhaps a different angle here:

"Make anthems longer, with a few exceptions". Positivity eh?

Edit - where the abridged versions are used already.

Freedom of speech. It's for everyone even if you don't like the opinion, easier to just say "disagree" instead of "if your opinions starts like this... leave that one in the drafts"

Although i get your point and i agree that some anthems are particularly long versions, i don't really mind. FIFA & the FIA & many other federations make some anthems shorter, but in this case GPRO doesn't have any post-race protocol to follow so... If anyone wants to keep listening to the anthem or not, that person is free to do whatever. + maybe the race winner enjoyed the full version so much hahaha.

Like i said, i get your point but since GPRO doesn't have to follow any post-race protocol i don't mind

All this copypasta just to get the facts wrong. GPRO uses our current full anthem (which btw lasts exactly 3:30 minutes and not "4, almost 5 minutes" as Chris stated) which does not include that anti-Spain part (basically because that version is not used since 1924 as you pointed out).

Sporting events use a shorter version due to one simple reason: you can't spend 3 and a half minutes just to one anthem.

Great. Never said you couldn't. You however specifically told me I should've said "I disagree" instead of what I did say. This would be suppressing my ability to freely speak as I please.

I don't think you understand how freedom of speech works.

I stand corrected, I took a guess from the race timer. Nothing against your anthem specifically.

Just to re-iterate why I'm requesting this, is that if a small handful are much much longer than the rest it seems fair to me that abridged ones would be substituted. It doesnt particularly bother me but when you're listening to it you kinda think "hey how come ours isn't that long".

What fact is wrong in my post ?

I do not say how long the anthem was-that was Chris you even agreed to that,

Quote ( Vladimir Valis @ June 21st 2022,22:27:40 )

GPRO uses our current full anthem (which btw lasts exactly 3:30 minutes and not "4, almost 5 minutes" as Chris stated)

Next you agree to this part in my post,

Quote ( Vladimir Valis @ June 21st 2022,22:27:40 )

which does not include that anti-Spain part (basically because that version is not used since 1924 as you pointed out).

and the last part,

Quote ( Vladimir Valis @ June 21st 2022,22:27:40 )

Sporting events use a shorter version due to one simple reason: you can't spend 3 and a half minutes just to one anthem.

This is what I posted, the anthem is too long for sporting events and is shortened.

So you have agreed with everything that I posted except for the one thing that I did not post which is the actual time of the anthem which Chris got wrong.
