Does anyone think that Sterling is worth of 50mn??

Nope. Nowhere near. Aguero was what, 32 million?? And is 1000x better. Sterling had about 60 chances last season and score 4 goals, 4. So glad he is gone from Liverpool :P Hopefully he can keep the bench warm and enjoy his 200k a week that could be spent somewhere in the english economy instead

Borini, Lambert, Balotelli, Sturridge, Origi, Ings, Benteke.

The most strikers seen in Liverpool since the dockers in the 80s.

As much as people like to get on Moyes` back, he has a better win ratio than van Gaal, and didn`t get to spend some 300million pounds on transfers either.

Van Gaal is a horrible spender, but he did create a younger squad which got about the same results as the squad under Moyes.

The amount he spent on players is just awful, and the cheapest of them all (Daley Blind) is probably the most consistent player of them all, not a star player.. but he's performing well in this team.

But are the expectations realistic? You can't build a premier league winning team in 2 years, not even with 300m pound. He was assigned to build a new, younger, squad and eventually become champions in three seasons time.. it's one hell of a task to achieve that.

Will things get better with Jose "Park the bus" Mourinho though? I don't expect much fireworks from him, although they probably need a coach with a softer approach towards the players after Van Gaal, because you can see the fun has been drained out of them.

Kenny Dalglish did with Blackburn Rovers :)

also, in 1994, Alex Ferguson started the season with 5 players plucked from the academy and two new signings with Andy Cole and David May. Effectively, a new team. They won the league the following season.

Also, Real Madrid won La Liga in 2007 having signed 9 new players - the same season they lost Zidane thru retirement and Ronaldo thru... overweightness I guess?!

So, lets quit giving excuses to Van Gaal. His teams are boring as guck to watch and this philosphy he speaks of...I am not seeing much evidence of :)

Prehistoric times, come on, you can't compare situations of 20-30 years ago with the current situation. If we do that, Van Gaal is still a top coach for nearly winning back to back Champions Leagues with Ajax in '95 and '96 (lost to Juventus on dope!).

La Liga can't be compared to the premier league. La Liga is dominated by two teams, with 3 teams that do decent about 10 points behind them.

I'm not giving excuses, he should've done a lot better, but the situation is being exaggerated big times. Change takes time, and in this case Man Utd needs to take a step or two backwards to get in the right direction again. I really do believe LvG is creating the base for that (the two steps backwards ;-) )

a top coach 20 years ago doesn't necessarily mean top coach today though :) He is way too old fashioned. He's a modern day George Graham. Actually a modern day George Graham would have less chance of sending the public to sleep. Maybe that's the idea behind his philosophy? :)

really?

As far as I remember, De Gea is staying, that's something for the goal.
Darmian as a RB, buy me Garay or another good and not so expensive CB, plus Smalling, plus Shaw as a LB and Rojo because you know that Luke will get injured.
Put me Blind as a CDM right inbetween your centerbacks, Ander Herrera and Schneiderlin or another center midfielder (just not Schweinsteiger) behind Mata/Rooney distributing to Martial and another striker. I'm not sure if it can win the league, but it can probably do better and be more entertaining than LvG.

Nah, who am I kidding, for some reason he's there and I'm here

Isn't it kind of ironic that 3/4 of the premier league teams could do with at least ONE centre back. Half of them probably two. There's nothing like the quality of defenders there used to be. Anywhere in world football that is, not just the PL.

Is LVG going to take a bung? If not then I see little in common with the boring boring Arsenal days. IIRC, didn't they actually have a damned good defensive record. Seven 1-0 wins on the bounce if lore is to be believed.

I think United could do with just Rojo and Smalling, but I like Red on the left, and they can't find a way for Shaw not to get injured by the look of it, so either a center back or a left back, but they need someone there

I fully agree. I see the same happening at Ajax right now, endless passing the ball around, mainly in defence, never running at the defence, safe passes back.. I rarely watch games anymore, I even passed the opportunity to get a season ticket.. I think it also has to do with the quality of players.

Yeah, that`s why before the 37th matchday there was 4 teams still with a shot at the title. Barca and Real weren`t the teams they are today back then, Real Madrid nearly lost the title away to Zaragoza (who had Diego Milito), but Barcelona screwed up and drew Espanyol at home. And even on the last day, Real were 1-0 down to Mallorca after an hour of play and it wasn`t until Capello took Beckham off for Reyes (who went on to score a double) that Real sealed the win.

You can take a step back and still be competitive. Look at United after they signed Rooney and Ronaldo, they didn`t win the Premier League for 3 , but still managed to qualify for Champions League football (and didn`t finish below 3rd, iirc). And that was 10 years ago, hardly prehistoric times.

This. David Luiz being the most expensive defender ever shows the current state of football. :)
