What's the point of asking my opinion if their decision is not gonna change?

Because you need to give them the correct answer, that THEY are looking for. Not necessarily your reality all the time.

But if they are asking my opinion on money and duration, then shouldn't they increase it when I tell them that I expect more?

That depends on the sponsor’s stats and exactly how forceful you were with your answer.

My Dad stole a sponsor which I had got to 90% with. Who do I complain to about this? I phoned mum and she didn't seem to care.

Mum would be the highest rank power by far ... so I guess you're done :)
Might be best to be patient and wait until dad asks you to cover his holiday mode ...

This will happen as you progress and reach certain points in the negotiations.

The sponsor at one point in negotiations will offer a sum of money per race.

They will also offer a contract length but at a different point in negotiations.

And these offers are generally negotiatable or not?

The offers (both amount and duration) are posed as a question by the sponsor ("what do you think...") and depending on the sponsor stats and the answers given, you may be able to squeeze them for some more cash, or get them to revise their duration offer.

Or they don't like your answer, and cancel negotiations. Fun game, really. ;)

Patience is the key, this is a long journey run, not a game to win all the time ^^

Have hope. And get more "presentable" for them.

I'm not 100% sure but my last contract changed slightly.

They're not asking for your opinion ;) They're testing whether you are capable of managing sponsors! You just need to find out how to kiss their asses in exactly the right way so they give you free money, and as much as possible.

It's actually fairly akin to real life sponsors. They don't care what you want. It's not about what you want, it's about what THEY want. And THEY want their name in the right spot, as well as for you to magically understand each and every other wish they might have :P

a specific sponsor will want the same answer from every single manager, in every single season,

Won't that depend on the Expectations rating? If it's high, it could mean the sponsor wants you to do well _eventually_ , but it could as easily mean they expect you to do well _always_ . And that would seem to depend on how much they're spending.

Can I derail by raising another question? Does the game system keep track of my negotiations, & alter sponsor responses based on them? Or is sponsor negotiation a season-by-season thing with resets?

Wouldn't it be boring if the 'good' sponsors in a group are always the same ones?

Each group has a different branch of any given company, and the branches naturally employ different staff and have varying levels of success. For example, in M3 the financial power and patience of Pfiser are both quite high, whereas in any group containing Paul Brosnan they're way down.
