Hi,
If I sign a driver in rookie and extend their contract for another season - but then purposely go negative to stay in Rookie - will I still keep hold of the driver for the next season?

This is something that is done a lot in rookie. You can keep your driver that way.

You keep it IF OA is 85 or less after last race.
EDIT: So in rookie you will lose your driver if OA limit exceeded even if you still have contract.

There's a certain type of training that lowers motivation a bit. I suggest you ask your team as I believe this is considered FOBY (find out by yourself).

Oh yes, very. If you don't promote, your driver overall needs to be 85 or less, otherwise you'll lose him in the reset.

That simple? Ah yes, self esteem goes so high that you always need some other expertise. Otherwise, it's impossible.

Not entirely true. Spending prolonged time in Rookie is a waste compared to Ama (namely because staff/money reset) but as an example:
I stayed Rookie 2 seasons with my current driver which allowed me to do quite well S74. I doubt he would've been able to promo in S73 (especially not without risks/with good finances) and I also question whether he could've retained in Ama during S74.
So I would've had to spend another 4 seasons or so building up after getting to Ama, and would only have recently entered Pro. At the time when I started playing this game again (S72) my goal was to rise through the ranks as quickly as possible- EDIT: with 1 long term driver- and I am now on the 3rd Pro season with my rookie driver.
All this to say that it's somewhat dependant on personal goals but I do agree in the long term it's best to stay out of Rookie :)

Motivation is what you (don’t) need. drop it in several ways if you want to keep a driver...it is the one thing you get to keep in the reset. OA has to be under 85 as has already been stated. fitness training is one way but OA only gets dropped slightly. also depends on the age if your driver and to do with money management. keep control of your OA. even better get to know what attributes you want and don’t want in your rookie driver.

You are asking because of the leader of your group? Who was won the first 2 races and right now has a driver of 95 OA? I would say that manager hired a driver of 85 OA after demoting to Rookie and with two wins, and probably some trainings, had a big boost of motivation and OA for the driver.

I'm on my first races and I was handed an expensive, albeit talented pilot. I obviously don't know whether I want to keep him or not come season's end, but I need to know how to keep him if I wanted.
I know he needs to be 85 or lower, no problem. Do I need to extend his contract at the end of the season, or will he come back to me anyway if I just choose to do nothing?

You need to have him on a contract that goes beyond the season end.
So if his contract ends on Race 17 he will leave you regardless of his OA.
A.driver has a a current contract and can have 1 extension simultaneously.

when does the contract extension begin? Right now (17 more races), or right after Race 17 (23 or 24 races)?
I would also like to know how long does an extension negociation take. If I offered an extension right now, when should I get an answer? I believe I read somewhere the market "opens" twice a week,

Extensions are immediate, there is no negotiation process. It will start when the current contract ends (after race 17 in your case). But your driver's overall still has to be below 85 if you will stay in Rookie.

well, that's one way you can do it... but in my experience, it's not the best way most of the time... especially in Rookie.. you can Decrease your Drivers Motivation(the stats that takes so much OA) by just intentionally sabotaging your Economy to get -15M at least after getting all the Race income... so you can Train your Driver Every Race... Even do testing every race to stack STA too... and Win all Race as many as you can.. then just sabotage your Economy before your Final Race if you are sure that after you drop your drivers Mot to zero he will still have equal or less than 85 OA... you will still have your Driver in the next Season...
All you need is a good OA calculator tool... understand the basic aspects of what is in /gb/Help.asp and combine your understanding to make a good season plan along with it...

Hello. If I sign driver over 110OA in Pro with 17+17 contract, I will be able to retain him in Amateur for all the remaining race of current and future contract, right? The only thing is that i won't be able to extend it?

If you or when you relegate to Ama with driver higher than 110, then he will leave you.
From Rules : If during the season reset (right after promotion/relegation) the driver of a manager relegated to a lower class is exceeding the above limits then the driver will leave him (no matter what the overall of the driver will be when the season reset is completed). The same applies even to Rookie managers who do not promote to the Amateur class and who have drivers with overall higher than 85.
