So, the news about 2022 season are starting:
- Ocon signed a 3 year contract with Alpine until 2024, so he is confirmed for 2022 season.
- Photos of a prototype 1:1 scale model of a 2022 F1 car leaked: https://imgur.com/a/KqZxejL

So far the confirmed driver line up is:
AlphaTauri: TBA, TBA
Alpine: Fernando Alonso, Esteban Ocon
Aston Martin: Sebastian Vettel, TBA
Ferrari: Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr.
Haas: Nikita Mazepin, Mick Schumacher
McLaren: Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris
Red Bull Racing: Max Verstappen, TBA
Williams: Nicholas Latifi, TBA

Sauber will appear in 2022, but it is not yet known if it will be an Alfa Romeo Team. I am not sure why Mercedes is not yet confirmed for 2022.

Drivers without a contract after 2021: Hamilton, Bottas, Gasly, Giovinazzi, Räikkönen, Russell, Stroll, Tsunoda

Good recap!...not much to add. I wonder what the development front looks like. Will Mercedes strike again by gifting g Red Bull the development edge this season to go into the new era stronger?

I think it's safe to say Stroll will stay at Aston Martin :)

I know that Haas absolutely gave up on their 2021 car and all development goes into 2022. Ferrari has 90-95% of resources already dedicated towards 2022. But I haven't heard how it goes in other teams.
Mercedes might even go as far as "let" RedBull win this season, just to get more time in the wind tunnel for 2022:
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.how-f1s-new-slidi...
Because whoever starts the 2022 season best, has the biggest chances of dominating that new era. And 5% more time in the wind tunnel might give Mercedes an advantage to do that.

Of course! But that is not official yet.

Figures. Brawn in 2009 then Mercedes in 2014 (same team) smashed it, after ofcourse Honda were no where in 2008. Merchave the form in these changes that's fior sure. The grid could form way differently.... any predictions? 😀

Well, I am guessing that the rookies might get a bit better for the next year, so AlphaTauri might go a bit higher, as well as Haas. But Williams is a big question mark, I can't wait to see if the new team owner will change how the team performs, and what kind of driver-lineup will they secure for 2022. McLaren might also do better when Ricciardo gets familiar with the car, and Lando gets even better. I don't see any hopes for Alpine now, I don't think they will improve much. However the new changes can change a lot, so I might be very wrong.

I only know this Chain Bear guy from his appearance on Driver61's 24h Nurburgring stream. Is his content good and worth watching?

Alfa Romeo has signed with the Sauber team for a few more years.

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.breaking-alfa-rom...

So right now all teams competing in 2021 will appear in 2022 in the same form. There are rumors about a new team called "Panthera Team Asia" joining F1 2022 season, however no real news has been presented on this topic.

Very exciting weekend.
I have no idea how this Sprint race will go, anything can happen. :D
There could be several teams with no sleep until race time tomorrow, if there are safetycar "incidents" in the sprint race.
Lewis and Max are almost equally fast, with a bunch of "almost as fast" behind.
I can't wait and its long time since i was this excited over a race weekend.

Alonso and Perez renewed contracts with their teams for the 2022 season.

Currently, the 2022 grid is shaping like that:
Alfa Romeo: TBA, TBA
AlphaTauri: TBA, TBA
Alpine: Fernando Alonso, Esteban Ocon
Aston Martin: Sebastian Vettel, TBA
Ferrari: Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr.
Haas: Nikita Mazepin, Mick Schumacher
McLaren: Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris
Mercedes: Lewis Hamilton, TBA
Red Bull Racing: Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez
Williams: TBA, TBA

And I've heard rumors about two new teams wanting to join the great, but no real news about that.

To be honest, every other TBA is extremely likely to retain their seats except the two Williams boys and Mercedes #2, although from what Hamilton has been saying he would prefer Bottas as team mate. Doubt that has much weight on their decision though.

Well, right now it feels like there is no "better" choice between Russell and Bottas. But I think that maybe Kimi will retire, not wanting to learn a new car, and Giovinazzi is not doing too well, so I think there could be some changes in Alfa Romeo (there are rumors about Schumacher going to Alfa). But AlphaTauri will probably stay the same. Lance Stroll will probably stay in Aston, and I don't think Latifi will be sacked if Russel goes to Mercedes.

Is Schumacher really confirmed at Haas? There has been some talks about him moving to Alfa Romeo

Yeah, Gunther Steiner said that it is a three way deal, because Mick has a contract with Ferrari and with Haas, so he wants to keep him in Haas, but Ferrari might have other plans, but most likely he will stay in Haas.

They could, but from a relative perspective, it's tit for tat, and thus sticking with his current pit crew, in my POV, would be the smarter move (or non-move really) ;)

After recent annoucments, the 2022 grid is shaping like that:
Alfa Romeo: Valtteri Bottas, TBA
AlphaTauri: Yuki Tsunoda, Pierre Gasly
Alpine: Fernando Alonso, Esteban Ocon
Aston Martin: Sebastian Vettel, TBA
Ferrari: Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr.
Haas: Nikita Mazepin, Mick Schumacher
McLaren: Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris
Mercedes: Lewis Hamilton, TBA
Red Bull Racing: Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez
Williams: TBA, TBA

So we still don't know if Giovinazzi will stay at Alfa or be replaced by someone else. Same for Lance Stroll. And one seat in Mercedes is now empty, and both Williams seats too.

Unlikely... It seems Russell would be Hamilton's b*tch... Or it least to me it would be likely that way...

I do agree with the sentiment, however... Hamilton should be complaining at supermarkets next season.... ;)

I edited the implied winky face in, as some people might lose their marbles over such a remark...

Yeah it will likely be George doing exactly what he's told, being a team player etc. for the first season or two, like everyone else who gets moved to a top team (except Verstappen). He'll feel like the privileged one and feel some sort of debt to the team for being signed, but after a while he'll get tired of that. I assume whenever that happens is when Hamilton will retire. George is a good boy though, he'll do as he's told for a while.

I think Hamilton is past his prime and Russell is going to match him very soon. It's going to be interesting for sure. It could be a Hamilton-Alonso 2007 scenario but with the roles reversed.
