SEASON 88 (R-38)
Races: 17
Wins: 14
Podiums: 17
Pole-positions: 13
Fastest laps: 7
Points: 160
Championship: Champion
Cup: Champion

The expectation at the beginning of the season was to finish the last race promoted to the Amateur level. For that, I hired a pilot with the characteristics that I thought were ideal: Dennis Schneider. The debut race in Montreal showed that I had it right, taking a consistent victory. Three more victories in a row (Interlagos, Laguna Seca and Adelaide) allowed me to open a good advantage over the 2nd place, the Russian Aleksei Filimonov. The 5th race, at Silverstone, took place in the rain and I was in 3rd place, behind the South African Martin Pichler and the English Gareth Love. A streak of five wins (Jerez, A1-Ring, Bremgarten, Grobnik and Fiorano) put me close to won the championship. Then a new race in the rain at Paul Ricard made me finish 3rd again. At this point, an intense dispute between Filimonov, Love, Pichler and the Hungarian Gergely Gajáry facilitated the promotion and the conquest of the championship, obtained after a victory in Jyllands-Ringen. By this point, Love had established himself as my main racing opponent, with him having dropped me in 2nd at the Hungaroring, and finished 2nd in my wins at Baku, Yas Marina and Fuji. To finish off the great season, I got another victory in the last race, in Kyalami. In total, there were 14 wins, 13 pole positions and 7 fastest laps, with 160 points scored out of 170 possible points. An invitation to join the Brabham team was made by Luke Frost and I accepted. So I will start season 89 as a member of the Brabham BT62, which will certainly be interesting and fun as the goal is to reach the top before season 100.
