Hmm I'd rather guess that he'll rather be announced only as some kind or reserve driver for Jay and Wickens, I guess Howard has some kind of contract with AFS Racing which should see him start in their car. And taking Wickens' spot away would be quite brutal.

Danica 7th after qualification! It really want her to get a good result in the last race of her career.

You may very well be one of the few that I've seen online that does. There is a lot of vitriol directed at her.
But what if she wins? I don't have her in my picks for that silly game. Oh well.

Wickens is faster this season then Hinch it seems, only had some bad luck at the start. But Hinch already announced he is not gonna jump in another car.

Good start to the second Detroit race... the pace car crashed on the formation lap :P

Hardly even got on to the formation lap, already started spinning in the pit exit lol. Excellent advertisement for Chevrolet.

The Verizon IndyCar series. Where the drivers of the pace car are just as incompetent as the officials.

To be honest the oval racing of Indycar has been more exciting that any F1 race this season.

The race at Road America last weekend was more exciting than any F1 race this season

Then Austria happened, haha!
Nah, kidding Alexis, you make a good point. To be fair, Indycar has nailed it with the new cars this year. Just need a little more work on the speedway package and it's clearly the best racing of any major series currently. Excluding endurance racing anyway...

Yeah the racing on the road/street courses have been brilliant, just needs to fix the oval races and it'll be amazing.

Yeah I was at the Indy 500 this year, and it was still a great spectacle but you could really tell that the drivers were struggling to follow anyone closely. The leaders caught the tail end of the field in 20 laps and it was just a bottleneck.
I still appreciated it from the aspect of watching the drivers have to wheel the cars and handle the understeer and oversteer, but if they find a way to get them some downforce on speedways, we're in for a treat year round.
Anyone hear about the rumor of Laguna Seca coming back? Evidently Sonoma and Laguna Seca both agree that the area can't support two races, but one of them would work. As much I like Laguna, I just don't see it coming back unfortunately. It's a tough one too, given that racing at Sonoma hasn't always been particularly great either.

Wow what a race at Mid Ohio yesterday. I hate it that Rossi won, but quite a display by Bordais.
Previous post...I am shocked that Laguna Seca is taking Sonoma spot. I did not see that coming, but people were not going to Sonoma so I can understand it.

Shiiiiiiiit. Wickens got into a Bräck kind of aerial motion into the fences. Not good.
|
|
|
Secondary impact on Hinchcliffe was brutal too.
edit: The faces around the track don't look good. RHR looked like was bout to cry after being interviewed.

"Awake and alert" (quote of VP of Indy Communications). Finally.

I kind of already thought it was positive that he met the fence nose first and spiralled around the yaw(?) axis, and not top/head first to the poles in the catchfence. But good news indeed eventually. Massively lucky there just like eg. Dixon last year at Indy. Although I'd not be surprised if there's some major broken bones or even spine like in Bräck's case.

|
|
figured he would be ok. but the long wait sure makes your mind wonder a bit. very positive news.

It kinda reminded me of the Aleshin crash a few years ago, just more violent. Massive accident but it looks like Wickens should recover from this.
|
|
|
Damn thats gonna be a long recovery.
|

Yeah, he ended up with a couple broken legs, broken right arm, some spinal injury/bruising and a bruised lung.
Hell, he survived though. I think it speaks a lot to just how good IndyCar's safety crew is.
I met Robert after the 500 this year, just a quick shake his hand and say good race thing, but he was extremely nice. Definitely just hoping for the best going forward.

Aaaand the Portland Grand Prix begins in a mess :P

The 2019 calendar has been released; COTA will be filling the spot left after Phoenix, along with the aforementioned Laguna Seca race replacing Sonoma.
And Takuma Sato won a race again, so things are great ;)

COTA and Laguna Seca are great additions to the calendar

Absolutely, glad to see Sonoma and Phoenix taken off.

Indycar races are more exciting than battles in formula one. IRL increases interest and the number of viewers is surely rising.
Competitions get the indycar nuances with lots of cars. They´re strong battles during laps and rounds.. It is definitely important for this sport and entertainment for drivers and spectators.
Especially Finnish drivers will drive in the IRL, maybe in 2021?

Didn't Juho Annala technically take part in IRL? It was during the 2008 Grand Prix of Long Beach which was held under Champ Car rules, but it counted towards the IRL standings :)

Sonoma's an acceptable trade for the corkscrew. But Phoenix is a loss. Yeah, they didn't race well there last year, but there's potential. It's a track with a ton of history. And it's an oval, a category they're perpetually a bit short on.
