en would not work. US English, GB ans AUS English is not the same.

think about Spanish, Portuguese, ... better to bind it to a country.

as long as there is only 1 english language selection it doesn't matter, does it now...

Edit: but ofc. if there will be more in the future, then it might. Although I fail to see a reason for it, as in my personal opinion it would be blowing the whole matter out of proportion. Those languages are not SO different or at least they should be understod regardless of which of the 3 one is from.

Well... if it wasn't clear from my previous post (with the link), I would've used "en".

But it doesn't really matter to me which letters are used :)

I agree there are differences but none of them makes the sites unreadable. Most of the big differences will be in names related to "technical" (there as many ways to say tyres in Spanish as there are countries). But Marcelo did a great job and used very common and understandable words for everybody to understand (In my example neumáticos is common, but maybe not used, to all Spanish speaking countries, if he would have used "Borras" that would be another issue).

I sincerely think it will be useless to translate into all different ways there are to speak a language.

There is only 1 english language, but there are both Spanish and Portuguese, which both have their own translations/abbreviations in the address bar.

So what's your point ?

edit: Please don't take this the wrong way, but aren't you being a bit silly arguing about semantics over something that is quite a moot point ?

Note: I don't mean silly in any offensive way (in my mind it's a mild word)

He didn't mean difference between Spanish and Portuguese, he meant differences within Spanish and Portuguese in different parts of the world.

He did compare the "en" vs. "gb" to the spanish related languages situation, which is totally different thing. Since there is only 1 english language.

but I think this all is futile, so that's enough from me about it...

Admins have made it possible to have multiple languages, but in spite of their tremendous effort, instead of thanking the admins for making people's life easier, some people decide to complain and bicker about minor details.

(unfortenatelly sometimes even I get involved eventhough I shouldn't) :/

From what I can infer (and, note that I do not necessarily agree with him) he seems to say that Brazilian and Portugal could conceivably have different languages (if a Portuguese manager could finish the translation) so English should have different translations for American English, British English, etc.

I totally agree with Mikko. I know that the Yanks may seem strange to the Poms, however the language is essentially the same and easily understandable regardless of which spelling is used.
As such, there's absolutely no need to have more than one version of English.

I'll comment about something else in it's correct thread.

I like the new graphs!!! they are welcome...

what i hate and really dont understand is why portuguese language has brazilian flag...

bla bla bla, because they were brazilian people who have translated it. can this be considered a reason?? "Portuguese means "from Portugal". and "from Portugal" means portuguese flag. not brazilian flag...

imagine if english language had a american flag... or australian... nice? or maybe spanish flag had a flag from argentina? or peru? or venezuela?

Portuguese is the 7th more speaked language in the world. be reasonable and AT LEAST identify language as portuguese BR. because i dont understand that portuguese-BR... so many different words!

i know portuguese people is already translating the game. i'm waiting for changes then...

this is just a thought
thank you

I think it's because Brazil has more successful F1 drivers than Portugal does. Well that or Brazil currently has a F1 race but Portugal doesn't. To be honest I can live with having a British flag representing my country's majority language. :-)

of course, thats my point. you speak english, not americam english, so you should have a british flag... that is correct
