Entry deadline has been reached, but I'd like to wait for action until Koen's GPROvision XIV is over. So please vote for round 2 in that one first ! :o)

Okay, GPROvision XIV is over and since I have some more time from now on, let's start the voting in this one. Since we've got 20 players in with 3 songs each (well, I had to help some guys out to be honest) and with the European Championship football inspiring me for the format, you are all put in groups of 4 players : so five groups of four.

In the group stage, we'll have 3 voting rounds. So you'll be pitched against an opponent with your A-part song, against an other one with your B-part song and against the third one with your C-part song.

Voting will be done in 2 ways : using the green-orange buttons as well as a top 5 sent to me in PM, with 5-4-3-2-1 extra points + 2 bonus points for the ones doing so. So the green-orange results we have by the time voting deadline is reached will only be the first half result, as some extra points might still be coming up.

Players finishing first in a group will go through with all their songs, players finishing second with 2, players finishing third still with 1 song and all this will be filled up with 2 lucky losers, so we'll have 32 songs left.

Then we'll have 1 KO-round. The 16 winners go through as well as 4 best losers from private voting.

Those 20 left will battle it out in the final in normal Eurovision voting style, by sending me a top 10 receiving 12-10-8-7-... pts.

Let's see how all this is going to go. :o)

GROUP STAGE

Matchday 1

1st half : So you just click the button : GREEN thumbs up for the 'home' team or the ORANGE thumbs down for the 'away' team or no thumb at all if you can't decide or dislike both of them for instance. As I can't check it, you can of course vote for your own song here, no problem.

2nd half : Apart from voting using the green/orange buttons on the left side, every player can send me a top 5 from the groups he isn't part of. So if you're in group B, you can pick from groups A-C-D-E. Those songs will get 5-4-3-2-1 extra points and you'll be awarded with 2 bonus points as an incentive for doing so. In a close battle, these 2nd half points could be decisive.

Deadline : Tuesday 22:00 CET

The battles will follow in next 10 posts.
Oh, and of course keep quiet on which songs are yours !

But I can vote my own song now :o
E- It also doesn't make sense because 2 very good songs may be paired up, while two bad ones may as well, 1 bad would automatically win, which doesn't make the least bit of sense.

That doesn't make sense. It's a group format, so that song will face the other 3 songs in the group and it would need to win multiple round to be likely to progress.

But you haven't seen the results as the bonus points by the private voting can make a big difference. Saying that, I'm not keen on the thumb voting myself, but as long as it's only in the early stages, I can live with it.

True, but 1) it's all just a game, 2) when you as a player won't finish last in your group you can still take that song with you to the next round

Quote ( Kevin Parkinson @ June 18th 2012,11:06:59 )

It's a group format, so that song will face the other 3 songs in the group and it would need to win multiple round to be likely to progress.

That's not true, however. 2nd & 3rd matchdays will be with other songs. Otherwise there would be 9 group stage votings, a little too much imo. So Wopke is right that if two of the better songs are paired, one of them has to lose. Though that doesn't mean it will be out of the contest, as by the end of the group round, you can decide which song(s) to take into the next round. Although you might reconsider saving a song that had already lost a direct battle...

Quote ( Michał Kubski @ June 18th 2012,08:21:33 )

Really? Makes me not even bother listening to the songs now that I can just see the results.

Those aren't the final results. Where the battles are tight, anything can still happen in the '2nd half'.
If you don't want to vote now, fine. Then wait until the final. By then, only 1/3 of the songs will be left.

Quote ( Kevin Parkinson @ June 18th 2012,11:08:20 )

That's how I thought about it as well. It's not that the whole contest is going to be like this. And it's never 100% thumbs up/down voting. It's just the easiest way for me to handle the group stage. And since you don't know who the songs belong to, it's no popularity contest.

18/6 15:30 CET

Quote ( Gunter Bosman @ June 18th 2012,14:56:42 )

And it's never 100% thumbs up/down voting.

So far, these 5 people have sent me their private top 5 :
- Finn Shaw-McIver
- Joseph Wood
- Kevin Parkinson
- Mikko Suhonen
- Rimantas Sagatas

They already turn around 2 battles. Imagine over 15 or even 20 people doing so !
Also, mind this : If you see a song is losing and you would like to see it get through, then you could spend 5 extra points on it.

Now, when we'll reach the voting deadline, which is in about 30 hours from now, you'll know the 1st half results from public votes.
I will then add up the private voting points + the bonus points for sending me those and then I'll let you all know who won.
But not by how much. I will only keep track of the 'goal difference' for standing purposes, but keep that for me in order not to reveal how popular a song has already been. With the public voting, you can already see how well it did versus its opponent, but not how well it did in general.

18/6 22:00 CET

After 7 players having sent me their top 5, two song already got 19 & 16 bonus points. Won't reveal which ones, don't worry. Three songs are still scoring not even a single point in '2nd half'. And no less than 3 battles are extremely close at the moment, two of them even tied. So still a lot to play for, as there are about 24 hours left to vote.

19/6 15:15 CET

A bit less than 7 hours left to vote, as well here in public as in private to me (your top 5).
At the moment, there's one guy losing the battle by 1 point. So sending me his top 5 could turn it around. :o)

19/6 19:20 CET

Latest 2 voters have shaken things up quite a bit. There's now only 1 song left with 0 points in 2nd half. And there are now 3 guys who could turn things around if they send me their top 5, as several battles are pretty close (4 battles are within 2 points of each other).
