Its what you choose for upgrades. Make sure the first 3 are money, and if the 4th is not also money. it should be fire. The rest you dont need. Learn to live on the interest from the bank. ;)

I nearly beat level 34 by choosing money upgrades for the first 2 and then fire, but did not when i choose money for the first 3 and then fire... the weapons are just not powerful enough

They are if you place them well. By level 34 you will have to remove a lot of canons and towers to make room for a lot of fire towers (in the center and fully upgraded)

My best scores i have with 4 first money, and then fire, but it takes some careful planing.

EDIT I just did level 34 now with 40 canons and 16 towers.

Tried with another strategy and again finished the game. I am unbeatable, not the game :D
