Group Rookie 287. M. Tharenos kicking off in final lap, and finishing in 3rd place. Why???

Mod Edit: Title edited and moved to general forum

It seems he retired on the last lap. Therefore he is classified as being 1 lap down, which was still good enough for 3rd :)

Yeah what he said. Engine blew up. He had such along lead that he wasn't caught.

Once the leader retires that is irrelevant, the gap between 2nd and the rest of the field is the one which should count, so it is a bug and he should be classified 2nd as the first car to complete 55 laps.

E- He wasn't leading when he retired so the first half of the post is irrelevant, he should still be classified 2nd though

If a car is lapped then there race is over when the winner crosses the line if I'm not mistaken.

The same thing happened to me in S36 R11 Mexico City. I got a puncture in L68/69 and finished 7th, 40s behind the winning car. What would have realistically happened is I would've finished 2 laps down, but I'm assuming the game puts in a default lap value or something and just takes that away from the previous leader's time each lap. And if that previous leader is the one who retired, I guess it sort of buggers it up.

Only car in the top 12 not to complete the full 69 laps, yet came 7th. It's rather odd.

if he retires he should DNF, not 3rd i think

but for the game it's ok, i've no major argument against it, though more real-life consequences could promote better management and not risking smoking

No if he retires and completes more laps than the guys behind he will be seeded by completed laps.

Only if he does not cover 75% of the race length (IIRC) will he be considered as not classiffied.

The issue here is that he could have lost the time of a lap, yet even with the time he was still in fornt of the other cars.

Consider like a 1 minute 50 second time penalty, he will be finally classified with his time.

What was the gap between 2nd and 3rd after 55 laps, the eventual 1st and 2nd, and what were their lap times for lap 56?
To my mind there is the possibility that they were on same lap after 55 laps, just that 56th lap saw leader gain enough time for result to show +1 lap. In which case it is just one of the quirks of the race engine design; each segment being akin to a rally stage, with the lap counter being calculated by race leader's current lap time for 90% distance purposes.

the gap doesn't matter, he has done 55 laps and some while the rest did only 55 laps.
Whan you cross the line while the leader has finished you will be flagged.

probably game-error because everybody has to do the full amount of laps.
chose between being real or want to program easily
