I just sat my test having just joined the game yesterday and I have to say its a bit much isn't it? I understand perfectly the reasoning for it, but is a question like 'Where was the first Official GPRO meeting held' really relevant??

And before anyone jumps on me I have read The Game Rules, The Newbie Guide and looked over the Wiki page and there were several questions that came up that are not readily available in any of them that I could see.

...oh you probably guessed by now that I failed, 21/25 lol.

I'm planning on moving to Japan next week, though I won't bother on researching its history because I hardly find it relevant.

Those typre of questions are there to get you to develop a link with the community, as those that form links are more likely to stay playing the game long term.

Of course, I don't envisage living in Japan for a very long time. ;)

Second post by me. Oh my, becoming a regular forum spammer here...

Anyway, this time I am a little sad to feel the need to point out that the Cert Test is, no, not "is" but "gives", absolutely nothing worth bothering about.
Rather the opposite, it can be detrimental to some new managers.

Seriously either one is interested enough to learn what needs to be learned, to start checking for information via forums and internet, to learn the rules and ways of the GPRO - or not.

New managers that check around a little and attempt the test 1, 2, 3, maybe even 4, 5 times, without having any immediate success, and I doubt those managers will read through what is required of them to actually pass, might very well lose heart and not play anymore afterwards. Ergo not worth bothering about.

New managers that make the effort needed to pass the test and thus show thatt they are here to most likely stay a while at least still won't have enough Data before finishing the next 2 seasons to get any benefit from an extra 3, 2, or 1 million as they'll be retaining Rookie either way most likely (unless an older manager gives them the info needed to get the right driver and do the right things already in their first season, which in itself is spoiling the game as well as making life unfair for a driver landing in position 5 after finally having figured out how to get promoted, just to be beaten by someone with inside information).
Ergo, again, not worth bothering about.

Waiting for several seasons while gathering data to finish 16 races so being able to take the Cert at a time where you might actually be able to promote doesn't really gather you enough data TO promote, and the +5 mil for 17 races completed is more than anything you can get from the Cert anyway.
Ergo not, again, worth bothering about.

Waiting past the first few seasons and racing to learn the game until you first promote and then take the test just means you will get no extra cash from taking the test, at the very point where you might need it the most.
Ergo not worth bothering about again.

The only real reason to bother about it that I can see is the "pride" of being well enough versed in Internet searching to pass it...
Sorry, but not worth bothering about for me at least. There are better ways to accomplish that one.

I am certain nothing about the Cert Test will change though it would be good if one would get a feeling of actually getting something out of doing the work necessary to pass it.
Honestly I have spent far more than an hour between each race considering all kinds of aspect around the actual races themselves, and pondering what drivers could be good Rookie Drivers (and that was an easy one with just a tiny bit of foresight and planning), and gleaning some real gems from careless comments on the Forums themselves. Way more than an hour, and getting a LOT more out of that time than even bothering attempting the Cert Test.

Cheers

The certification test should be a stimulus to study the available information on this game. As a reward you get a financial reward and you might have more fun playing the game with the gained knowledge.

People are encouraged to pass the test in one try (highest reward).
The problem with todays mentallity is, however, that we no longer study before applying. When we get a new mobile phone we click on the button and see what happens. When we have a new printer we connect the plugs and see what happens. When we are on Facebook we click on buttons to see what happens and when we have a car we know that one of the pedals will get the car driving.

We do before we think/learn. This test encourages people to learn in another way. First, study the material and then do the test. Just what people need. The downside is, indeed, that people keep on trying until they have the certificate (but have had to pay money for it to get it).

Sorry Mark but I am not sure you understood my point.

Those willing to study before applying WITH the test will be equally willing to study before applying WITHOUT the test. These people get no rewards apart from the happiness of doing something they would have gotten more from doing something else during that <1h time of their life.

In fact the only thing the test is desinged to do is teach new players that they need to study before applying. Most of those will probably not learn that lesson anyway.

What it SHOULD be and what it IS are two different things. It gives no stimuli as each Rookie retain season RESETS money. Possibly 3 million down the drain.

Cheers

Don't bother about it then. Play the game in whatever way brings you most pleasure. If you think the Cert Test is the scourge of humanity then you have the option, like everyone else, to leave it alone.

You have to take the test in your first 17 races. This means that you could do it at a start of a season. In our case, we did the last race at the end of a season. If you've studied well, you will know that a driver is the number one priority if you want to do well in a race. That, including a getting a mentor and maybe joining a team will give you so many resources that passing the test in one try should be quite easy. Promoting to amateur from rookie is quite easy when you have the knowledge in my opinion (I did it twice already :P). Therefore, in my opinion, the reward of passing the test is fine.

[rehtorical question] no i did not study for it and as you see i have not passed it and do not see myself attempting it again..i like the red x..makes me feel like a medic or something :P
