Old post #1 posted Jan 12th 2020, 13:00:02 (last edited Jan 17th 2020, 02:15:00 by Benjimin Gilbert) Quote
Welcome to the twenty-fourth season of FAE1 Forum Racing!

As the post below is rather long, and contains definitions and rules which are rarely enforced, the need for a shorter version has been noted. Therefore, the short of FAE1 is:

12 Rounds per Season; 3 Races per Round (Sprint, Feature, Endurance).

Sprint and Features are on Saturdays, Endurance on Sundays.

Sprint and Endurance start times are announced at midnight; Features start with a post on the thread.

The races require the following posts:

Sprint: ‘Finish’ ASAP.

Feature: ‘Start’ -- 15 mins gap -- ‘Pit’ or ‘Pit 1’ -- 15 mins gap -- ‘Finish’

Endurance: ‘Start’ -- 20 mins gap -- ‘Pit’ or ‘Pit 1’ -- 20 mins gap -- ‘Pit 2’ -- 20 mins gap -- ‘Pit 3’ -- 30 mins gap -- ‘Finish’

Points system:

Don’t double post and don’t edit your posts: this leads to DSQ (no points).

Join by either posting the name of an F1 constructor (Manufacturer), or by posting the team name of your choice (Independent). Only Manufacturer teams can have 2 drivers.

And that’s pretty much it, at FAE1’s most basic. Obviously, that’s not all there is to it, and it is recommended that you read the long post in full to get the complete picture, but think of the above as the cliff-notes.

-------

1. Prizes

The Drivers Champion will receive 1 season’s worth of GPRO Supporter Credits (8.5€).

Those who win any of the other Championships (Teams, Enzo Ferrari Trophy, and John Love Cup) shall receive a portion of 5€ per Championship, which shall be based on their points contribution to the victory.

2. Season

Each Season of FAE1 will last for twelve (12) weeks, with Rounds taking place on the Saturdays and Sundays of these weeks. Each Round will be named in reference to the locale they take place in, be it a country, city, state, or region.

Rounds will consist of three races: Sprint (Saturday), Feature (Saturday) and Endurance (Sunday).

3. Races

3.1. Sprint Race

The Sprint Race will begin at a given time, which will be posted on the thread as soon after midnight (00:00 CET) on Saturday as possible. An example of a Sprint announcement post is as follows:

‘The Ghanaian Sprint begins today at 09:00 CET, lasting two hours.’

Drivers must then post ‘finish’ as soon as possible after the beginning of the race.

Drivers may only take part in the Sprint Race during the time allotted in the announcement post (in the example, 09:00:00 -- 11:00:00 CET). This is the ‘Race Period’.

3.2. Feature Race

The Feature Race will take place at some point after the Sprint Race has ended.

The Feature Race will begin with a Start Post. For example:

‘Start Ghanaian Feature Race’

If a Feature Race begins on or after 21:00 CET, a defined end time will be included within the Start Post. For example:

'Start Ghanaian Feature Race (ends at 01:30 CET on Sunday)’

Drivers must then post ‘Start’ as soon as possible after this time, followed by ‘Pit’ or ‘Pit 1’ and then ‘Finish’, with at least fifteen (15) minutes gap between each Race Post. More simply:

‘Start’ -- 15 mins gap -- ‘Pit’ or ‘Pit 1’ -- 15 mins gap -- ‘Finish’

As with the start, the Feature Race will conclude with a specific End Post, such as:

‘End of Ghanaian Feature Race’

If no End Post is made or unless otherwise stated in the Start Post, the official end of the Feature Race shall be midnight (00:00 CET) on Sunday.

3.3. Endurance Race

As with the Sprint, the start time for the Endurance Race will be posted on or just after midnight (00:00 CET) on the race Sunday. For example:

‘The Ghanaian Endurance Race begins today at 10:00 CET’

Drivers must then post ‘Start’ as soon as possible after the beginning of the race, after which they must make three ‘Pit’ posts (numbered as ‘Pit (1)’, ‘Pit 2’ and ‘Pit 3’) with at least twenty (20) minutes between each. After ‘Pit 3’, they must wait at least thirty (30) minutes before they can post ‘Finish’. More simply:

‘Start’ -- 20 mins gap -- ‘Pit’ or ‘Pit 1’ -- 20 mins gap -- ‘Pit 2’ -- 20 mins gap -- ‘Pit 3’ -- 30 mins gap -- ‘Finish’

By default, an Endurance Race will end at midnight (00:00 CET) on the Monday. However, an Endurance Race will always last for a minimum of six (6) hours. Therefore, if an Endurance is scheduled to begin after 18:00 CET, an end time will also be included in the announcement post. For example:

‘The Ghanaian Endurance begins today at 19:30 CET, and ends at 01:30 CET tomorrow’

4. Fastest Lap

Fastest Laps will only be awarded for the Feature and Endurance Races. Simply put, it is awarded to the driver who loses the least time between the most Race Posts.

For example, in the Ghanaian Endurance Race, two drivers made the following Race Posts:

Driver A: ‘Start’ -- 20:00 gap -- ‘Pit 1’ -- 20:01 gap -- ‘Pit 2’ -- 20:00 gap -- ‘Pit 3’ -- 30:01 gap -- ‘Finish’.

Driver B: ‘Start’ -- 20:00 gap -- ‘Pit 1’ -- 20:00 gap -- ‘Pit 2’ -- 20:00 gap -- ‘Pit 3’ -- 30:15 gap -- ‘Finish’.

Driver B who would be awarded the Fastest Lap, despite having the longer race time.

In the event of two drivers completing the same amount of Race Posts perfectly, then the next smallest amounts of lost time will be compared. If in the above example, Driver A also completed the ‘Pit 1’ to ‘Pit 2’ Race Posts perfectly, then they would be awarded Fastest Lap, as they have further gaps to compare while Driver A has none. If a tie remains after this, then the tied drivers will each receive one (1) point.

5. Terminology

Race Posts: Posts prominently and obviously containing the (correctly-spelled) words used to compete in a race (‘Start’, ‘Pit’/’Pit 1’, ‘Pit 2’, ‘Pit 3’, and ‘Finish’). Race Posts only become so (and subject to rules regarding retirement and disqualification) if the words are correctly-spelled.

Discretion over what counts as ‘prominently and obviously’ is the exclusive reserve of the host.

Race Period: The time between the official beginning and end of a race, whether this is made by post or by default.

6. Points System

The points awarded for each race, and how many places receive point, vary across the three. A driver can score a maximum of forty-seven (47) points in a given Round.

Points System

7. Results and Standings

The results of each Round’s racing will be posted by the following Wednesday. A short-ish report for each race will also be posted, although there may be a delay before this is posted. A delayed report may also cause some superficial changes to the results, but these will have no effect on scores and such.

The Championship Standings, of which there will be one for Drivers, Teams, Manufacturers and Independents (see Classes), will be posted every two Rounds, with short-ish commentary.

8. Classes and Joining a Team

There will be two classes of team in the series: Manufacturer and Independent. Though largely similar, there are different restrictions for each class.

For the sake of space and consistency, as I am well aware of how long certain Independent team names can be, all teams will be referred to by their entrant name in results and standings posts. These entrant names will be defined by me.

8.1. Manufacturers

Manufacturer Teams must be named after a former or current F1 constructor. Up to two (2) drivers may join a Manufacturer team, simply by posting ‘## Join team name’ or similar.

If a driver in a Manufacturer team has been inactive for two (2) full Rounds, then they may be replaced by another, by posting ‘## Replace driver name’ or ‘## Join team name’, or similar.

8.2. Independents

If a driver feels that they may not be fully active in the series, then they may create or join an Independent Team. Only one driver can be in an Independent team at any one time, and drivers in Independent teams cannot be replaced. They can, however, leave their spots in the Independent team vacant, which can then be taken over by a separate driver.

To join an Independent team, simply post ‘## Join team name’ or similar. Independent teams can be given any name. Those who create Independent teams can also name their chassis as well, though these must be the names of current or former F1 teams.

9. Other Rules

9.1. Race Disruptions

In the event of site maintenance and server issues which cause significant disruption to races, the affected race will be restarted from the beginning. To ensure that all competitors have prior warning, the restarted race will take place the following weekend, with remaining Rounds of the Season moved back accordingly.

9.2. Retirement from a Race

A driver who has retired from the race will still be included in results, and are still be eligible for points.

There are three ways a driver can retire from a race.

1: Incorrectly completing a Race Post, either by posting more than ten (10) seconds too early (See 9.4.), posting Race Posts out of sequence (e.g. Pit 1 followed by Pit 3, beginning an Endurance with ‘Finish’), posting the same Race Post twice, or by misspelling and failing to post a corrected version during the Race Period.

If a driver misspells (e.g. posting ‘Pi1’ instead of ‘Pit1’), then they may post a corrected version separately. They may NOT edit their Race Post. The driver may then continue their race from the corrected Race Post. As detailed above, a correctly spelled Race Post made out of sequence (e.g. beginning a Feature Race by posting ‘Finish’) is NOT a misspelling.

2: Failing to complete the required Race Posts for a race, whether by running out of time or simply forgetting.

3: Actively posting ‘Retire from the race’.

Drivers who retire from a race will be ordered by time, based on the amount of the race they have completed correctly. In the event of multiple drivers reaching the same distance, then those who actually posted (either incorrectly or to retire) will be counted as ahead of those who posted nothing.

9.3. Disqualifications (or DSQs)

Disqualification means that a driver is ineligible for points in the race that it applies to, excluding Pole Position and Fastest Lap points, and is excluded from the results.

Disqualifications will apply either to the following race (if outside a Race Period) or to the race in which it was earned (if within a Race Period). If a disqualification has been applied before a race, then the driver it applies to will not be permitted to compete in that race. If a driver fails to heed the disqualification and attempts to compete in that race, they shall be disqualified from the following race.

There following offences punished for by disqualification from a single race.

-- Asking for a Feature Race to be started at a certain time.

-- Posting Race Posts outside of Race Periods, except for the ten seconds before a Sprint or Endurance. (See 9.4.)

-- Editing Race Posts (whether inside Race Periods or not) or misspelled attempts at such.

-- Failing to heed a disqualification given on the thread (see above).

In these instances, the disqualification will apply to either the race the offence occurred in, or the following race if it occurred outside of a Race Period / concurrently with an existing disqualification.

There is one offence punishable by a whole Round disqualification.

-- Supplying false evidence concerning the above offences.

In the event that a driver wishes to give evidence about the above offences, such as an edited Race Post, then they should do so on the thread itself and in an appropriate manner (such as with a quote).

9.4. Ten Second Rule

Those who make Race Posts up to ten seconds too early will not be immediately retired or disqualified from a race, and will have the opportunity to correctly make the Race Post after a time penalty has elapsed.

This applies to all Race Posts made up to ten (10) seconds too early, including those made before a Race Period officially begins.

The penalties are as follows:

Sprint Race: 10 minutes wait per second too early.
Feature Race: 15 minutes wait per second too early.
Endurance Race: 20 minutes wait per second too early.

These penalties will begin from when the Race Post should have been made correctly, rather than from when the incorrect one was posted. For example, Driver A posts ‘finish’ one second before a Sprint Race that officially begins at 10:00:00 CET. They must then wait until 10:10:00 CET to make the correct ‘finish’ post.

Race Posts made eleven (11) or more seconds too early, or at any point after the end of the relevant Race Period, will still be punished as before and outlined above.

As always, if you have any questions regarding the rules, and I can’t help but feel that that is likely to be the case, then don’t hesitate to ask.

##Join Super Aguri

Had no idea I was 13th on the all-time races list, or that Super Aguri had done so well since I last played (definitely nothing to do with me - other than maybe for the most races).

1 championship to be outright best team ever - reckon I can do that :P

Well, I was going to point out that Nazir Ali, Luke Frost, Joseph Wood, and Andrew Pryor had all made relatively recent attempts to get the first season gang back together. Probably should have expected this!

Still extremely happy it did happen, though; welcome back Jon!

Not just the first season: we now have two of the seven entrants from the first ever race, back for the (belated) tenth anniversary season!

Also, you were eighth in the all-time races list at the end of Season 12. And give yourself some credit: two of the eighty-nine wins are yours!
