If we add gender "other" we would lose the easy recognition of DA that use feminine names and masculine gender. XD

I'm pretty sure if I changed my name for such a reason I'd instantly want to change it on every website I frequently use. Don't think "legal names" would really matter to you when we're talking about your profile on an online F1 management game.

When I asked to get my name changed (I didn't include my first name when signing up), I didn't have to provide "proof" that it was my real name. Maybe things have changed since then (2015/2016) but I doubt any poof is needed to change your in-game name. If you have a sensible reason for a name change then it will probably be accepted.

I think it says a lot about the current state of the world that there are still some people making such a fuzz about something like this. It's 2021, some people aren't that lucky to be born into a body they don't feel comfortable in. The option should be there, whether it makes a difference for you or not.

I think the easy solution is the removal of the asterisk that requires gender to be selected. Make it optional like Birthplace / residence / relationship status / height / weight.

Yup, remove the mandatory option for gender. Only solution to this (other being adding all types of gender options, and that could be done in the background for the near future).
Personally, I couldn't see why this was brought up, but completely agree with most of the statements here that people might identify themselves as someone else when they were born into a body that they do not want to be in. Always give people the choice to be what they want to be.

I personally don't understand the need for this kind of divisive rhetoric. It's not something i'm interested in. Putting a label on people or things, I think it can only show a lacking ability to understand and empathise with others who maybe have different feelings than what you have

IMHO there are way too many PII (personally identifiable information) into GPRO accounts and, as Jukka mentioned, that can make it a bit tricky with GDPR. It's quite ... strict about what the collector has to do with this data and what steps must be taken. One thing is for sure that if GPRO user database gets out there there can be some ... strange outcomes. So why expose GPRO and have all the headache of all the PII on the website? Just keep it to the bare minimum to have whatever features are dependent on them working. That includes the possibility to edit ones name (apply filters for profanities and such) and remove gender/height/weight/birthdate/etc

This is similar to political and religious discussion's that can't be reconciled. And this is how polarization and entrenched positions develop... like in the real world.
I've been around long (Gpro) enough to almost know for sure that Vlad will do something to address this oversight.
Remember there are some 7 or 8 billion copies of 'something like you and like me' someone is bound not to agree 'me or us'. Meanwhile, you should all kiss and make up and wait for the outcome. :)
