I have finished ninth in my rookie group race and I've later found out my driver was always pitting when the fuel tank was 3%-6% full and by that reason my driver was possibly pitting 1-2 laps earlier than calculated. Is this a glitch or a lack of knowledge of this game from me? Perhaps the driver pitted for new tyres as they were about 30%-35%?

Your driver will pit whenever you don't have enough fuel/tyres to complete tje next lap.
This means that the 3% you had were not enough to get a lap done, so your driver made a pitstop.
Your driver will pit due to tyres if they are about to go to 0% as well.

In addition, the race viewer gives you the fuel level in very rough steps of 3%. You might have actually been on less than that already.

The problem is... it both happened when the fuel was 3% in last lap of the stint and also in the last lap of another stint my fuel was at 6%. So confusing as in the previous race in Portimao I was reaching 0% of fuel and still completing the lap

Check the race analysis Oguz. The info there is what you should take into consideration.
In my race, the screen showed me entering the pits with 3% left in the tank but the race analysis says 2%

What George said, also the Race Analysis is very clear on what the pitting reason is, so you'll see if it was tyres running out, or fuel running out :)

To add to what others have said as well there are some very stark difference to take into consideration between Portimao and Spa as well :)
you would benefit from looking at fuel consumption as a per km not a per lap thing, Spa is a much longer lap and also is in the high fuel consumption band where as portimao is in the medium fuel consumption band

Ah okay, race analysis solution worked. It turns out that I actually ran out of mathematics and ran short of fuel at last stint. :) I'm sick of myself haha. Thank you for your help.

Don't be too hard on yourself, the best in this game have made that or other mistakes. Rookie is all about learning, so you just learned something ;)

Don't feel bad. I have over 700 races and made the same mistake. :P
