It's pretty good, as it makes decisions easier.

A pretty convincing win for Equador, who took advantage of Catar's terrible start. 2nd half was more balanced but still that was also due to Equador focusing on controlling the game and lowering the intensity.

Apparently that was the first time the host nation lost the opening game of a World Cup. I could be wrong though.

The only meaning of the match was to see if the rumors are true. They did not come true. Otherwise, a logical victory. Nothing surprising. It was good for Ecuador to score more goals. Senegal will surely score more.

Imho Qatar one of the worst team ever seen in a world cup. Today the first half could be 0-4 and in the second half Ecuador stop to run.

I mean Ecuador had 1.3 xG the whole match, including the penalty, wich is like 0.8 xG. So I wouldn't say that it could have been 0-4 just in the first half.

I think that was just a terrible showing from them.

Despite the previous games being friendlies, they did put some much better performances against (imo) stronger teams, so I don't think this is the best they can do.

I wouldn't be that surprised with an upset in the next game depending on the next team (Netherlands?) approaches the game. Though it still looks like too much sand for their truck.

They're awful, Ric. They'd have never been close to qualifying for a World Cup it they didn't bribe their way too hosting it. They will go down as the worst performance from a host nation, ever.

I'm not saying that they're not awful, and yeah probably the worst team in this tournament...

...but they can do much better than what they did against Equador, I think. This is nowhere near their ceiling imo.

They did have some glimpses of peak Qatar last game as well, even if against a defensive Equador just wanting to see the game out, they did put some pressure on them in the end for some good 10 minutes even if in vain.

It really is their level, because Ecuador is, on paper, their easiest opponent, and they just steamrolled them.

Yeah I agree that this was their best chance of grabbing a result. Still I think we can see better displays from them even if they lose (and even if it is by more!)

I guess we'll just have to wait and see though, I'm kind of interested in seeing how they will play.

Well, the warm up match wasnt really that exciting. Lets hope the football quality improves over the next days. Ecuador did what they had to do. Dominated the match and sealed the win with a clean sheet. Qatar barely threaten their opponents and it can only go south from this point.

Anyway, maybe we get some real football today.

Entertaining match. England dominated and was very effective. Iran also good when shooting but had less oportunities. And Maguire injuried might be a blessing in disguise

Yes but Maguire was playing really well in the game. I mean, one assist, hi the woodwork, and should have gained a penalty if the ref was fair. What more do you ask from a defender?
