It's time for the 12th Tour de Ski. This year there are 7 stages
Sprints, free 10/15 km classic, individual starts 10/15 km free, pursuits Sprints, classic 10/15 km free, mass starts 10/15 km classic, mass starts 9/9 km, free, pursuits, final hill
In this challenge you need to pick an athlete for each stage. The total time your athletes use will decide the winner. You need to pick the skiers from the groups below. The order in which you use the groups is free.
Some remarks: - from pursuit stages the stage time decides, not the total time - bonus seconds count as given officially - from the sprints the qualification time will count + official bonus seconds - you can submit stage by stage - if your athlete doesn't start you get the worst time from that stage from the group you picked him/her from
The deadline is when the sprint qualifying starts on Saturday the 30th at ??.?? CET.
Women
NOR SWE/FIN USA/AUT RUS/SUI GER/JPN/POL SLO/CZE/FRA any other
Men
NOR SWE/FIN FRA/RUS CAN/SUI/GBR JPN/USA/GER ITA/EST/AUT any other
I'll try to post participants list once I find one.

Stage 1: Men: Federico Pellegrino (ITA) Women: Katja Visnar (SLO)
Quote ( Jukka Sireni @ December 26th 2017,17:50:13 ) The deadline is when the sprint qualifying starts on Saturday the 30th at ??.?? CET. I see that the Stage 1 qualification is set to start 10:00 CET on Saturday, well at the moment at least.
Too bad FIS (or the organisers, dunno who is the decider here) have not really sorted themselves out this year. The courses themselves can be fine, but the distances are quite dull and non-changeable. Nothing but sprints, 10/15 km and the final climb.

Yeah, seems that FIS wants to standardise all the events to either sprint, 15 or 50 km. So dull. And I so badly miss 50 km individual starts. Though maybe drafting is too important in them to have one in Worlds or Olympics, but Holmenkollen could well be individual start. And generally I see no reason why that 10/15 km couldn't sometimes be halved or doubled.
Seems that I jumped over Pellegrino's Italian flag when making the groups. So it seems quite obvious pick from that group to one of the sprints.
SERONOSOVA Polina (BLR), if DNS then Fabjan (SLO) Pellegrino (ITA)

Quote ( Mikko Suhonen @ December 29th 2017,21:47:49 ) Ah, don't worry about that too much - it is possible to get an idea from here for example as FIS has at least managed to get rankings for both sprints and also for regular distances:
Thanks Mikko - I will look at these over the weekend

Quote ( Alan Halford @ December 29th 2017,23:33:53 ) Thanks Mikko - I will look at these over the weekend Nice! This starts in about 9 hours, though :)
However, if someone misses the Stage 1 which is the sprints, I would say that it will not be the biggest deficit and even easy to gain back if making picks from Stage 2 onwards.

That one season when you don't choose Van Der Graaff to the sprint, haha. But Gaia did good enough. Ustyugov is a machine.
Stage 2: Men: Alexey Poltoranin (KAZ / any other country) Women: Justyna Kowalczyk (POL)

And generally I see no reason why that 10/15 km couldn't sometimes be halved or doubled. Yeah the Holmenkollen one could indeed be an individual start. I liked the one skiathlon also in the tour in the past and most especially that long Toblach 30km pursuit which had one of the best sceneries in all of World Cup. There could be more 5/7,5km races too in general throughout the season.
If I remember correctly FIS was thinking about dropping the skiathlon altogether, kind of a shame but understandable due to it having that special ski shoe only for that race. However I would find it interesting if they could sometimes switch so that it is free style first and classic second, instead of always having it C+F. Much like in Nordic Combined they should sometimes do skiing first and hill second :)

There we go, only 2min 18s of deficit at maximum so still ok chances for anyone who still joins. Plus even that deficit can be shaped off eg. by another 8s by letting that Stage 1 missed pick be Any Other Country for women and 5s by having JPN/USA/GER for men.
