So, may as well start what could be a farcical GP :D
Many media sources reporting it as being cancelled, but as of yet no word from the organisers or FIA
Reports are that some team personal are at the track now, some are not at the track
Other reports saying Kimi and Seb have already got a flight home
And at the moment officially its still going ahead
Haven't heard this much confusion and crap since Indy05

The AGPC doesn't want to stop the GP because it would still have to pay Liberty for the non-show then.
Liberty doesn't want to stop the GP because they would receive no fees from AGPC.
Lets see if the teams force Liberty to concur.

Victorian Premier just issued a statement, well basically an ultimatum.
On medical advice, he has said
'Either a race without spectators or No Race"
With still no official statement fans are being treated like mushrooms. Left in the dark & fed nothing but BS.
Looks like it may well get cancelled

They say 1 tenth of a second is a long time in F1... 2 hours is an eternity to them. :P

I suppose it was already cancelled hours ago, but they took this long to decide who between the FIA, the teams, Liberty Media and AGPC has to pay the wasted money this cancellation caused.
On a different note - I still am sad of the cancellation, even if it was right.... I looooooove the Australian GP and now it seems to be gone for this year :(

How's the corona situation in Australia? Not so bad, I thought? The problem here is that F1 is predominantly a European circus and has brought corona with it. Which leads me to believe that Bahrain can't go ahead either; China is already cancelled; so Vietnam or Zandvoort could become the season opener.

Our infection rate / detection rate is increasing and we are starting to get infections “unrelated to travel”.
I am really sad that the gp has been cancelled. I live only 3km or so from the track and can hear the cars from our apartment, but it is a sensible decision, one which should have been made much earlier in my opinion.

I have to agree Graham. Very sad but for now it was the correct decision.

Sad that this has happened and I feel for everyone that planned to attend.
Is it the right decision??? Who knows, but it has been made and we now have to wait another week for the start of the season unless other F1 teams members get it between now and then.

I wouldn't be surprised if the season is delayed until at least Zandvoort at the beginning of May, perhaps even later still?

In my opinion it's a fair decision.
Here in Portugal all sport events were canceled. Things are getting serious so all the recomendations should go for big events to be postponed.

Bahrain and Vietnam Grands Prix postponed

The Bahrain and Vietnam Grands Prix have been postponed due to the continued global spread of coronavirus. The races had been set for March 20-22 at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, and April 3-5 at the recently completed Hanoi Circuit.
Formula 1 and the FIA say they will continue to work closely with the race promoters in Bahrain and Vietnam to monitor the situation and study the viability of potential alternative dates for both races.
They also state that they expect the 2020 championship is expected to begin in Europe at the end of May – but this will be regularly reviewed.

Evidently Kimi & Seb had already left Austrailia before it was announced and Lewis has been saying all week why is it still on .
Just read kyles post saying the same thing .

Absolutely the right decision, just a few weeks too late. It's incredible that they have been waiting till 2 hours prior to FP1.
All the risks they have been taking with the health of all the teams, volunteers, staff of the organization. It's something to shame on. Despite all the financial costs for every stakeholder.

Unfortunately like the rest of the world atm they went from 'things are okay' to 'crap we have to do something'. Cost considerations are enormous for the Formula One world.
How could they consider going with the Melbourne race even a week ago? How could they get replacement parts from Europe or even be able to manufacture them?
Here the government are sitting... waiting for the time to start mandatory quarantines. Meanwhile the populace are starting to react in 'panic mode'.
7 AM the foods store is full. Yesterday evening 6 PM 500+ in the supermarket. Lots of empty shelves and stressed people. Hang on to your butt because this is going to be a wild ride.

How close was that race!! Bloody awesome! Did you see that last overtaking move on the last lap? That was just magic. I won't forget this race for a long time.
