In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
Thanks for reading. Have a good day. :)

IF I should die, think only this of me; That there's some corner of a foreign field That is for ever England. There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed; A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware, Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam, A body of England's breathing English air, Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home. And think, this heart, all evil shed away, A pulse in the eternal mind, no less Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given; Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day; And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness, In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

RIP soldiers, navy and AF people who died for peace from all around the world.
Mod Edit: the day is for remembrance of people that died from all around the world, and not just the UK.

Please wear a poppy," the lady said And held one forth, but I shook my head. Then I stopped and watched as she offered them there, And her face was old and lined with care; But beneath the scars the years had made There remained a smile that refused to fade.
A boy came whistling down the street, Bouncing along on care-free feet. His smile was full of joy and fun, "Lady," said he, "may I have one?" When she's pinned in on he turned to say, "Why do we wear a poppy today?"
The lady smiled in her wistful way And answered, "This is Remembrance Day, And the poppy there is the symbol for The gallant men who died in war. And because they did, you and I are free - That's why we wear a poppy, you see.
"I had a boy about your size, With golden hair and big blue eyes. He loved to play and jump and shout, Free as a bird he would race about. As the years went by he learned and grew and became a man - as you will, too.
"He was fine and strong, with a boyish smile, But he'd seemed with us such a little while When war broke out and he went away. I still remember his face that day When he smiled at me and said, Goodbye, I'll be back soon, Mom, so please don't cry.
"But the war went on and he had to stay, And all I could do was wait and pray. His letters told of the awful fight, (I can see it still in my dreams at night), With the tanks and guns and cruel barbed wire, And the mines and bullets, the bombs and fire.
"Till at last, at last, the war was won - And that's why we wear a poppy son." The small boy turned as if to go, Then said, "Thanks, lady, I'm glad to know. That sure did sound like an awful fight, But your son - did he come back all right?"
A tear rolled down each faded check; She shook her head, but didn't speak. I slunk away in a sort of shame, And if you were me you'd have done the same; For our thanks, in giving, if oft delayed, Thought our freedom was bought - and thousands paid!
And so when we see a poppy worn, Let us reflect on the burden borne, By those who gave their very all When asked to answer their country's call That we at home in peace might live. Then wear a poppy! Remember - and give!

Today is not a day for bluster or for blather We always must acknowledge those who still do gather To mourn their colleagues old and new No matter how many or how few For all were somebody’s son, daughter, mother or father.
Today is not a day for celebration or for gain Except to celebrate the lives of those who fought in vain We owe them and we thank them dear We will not forget you, let you disappear From thought, we will not let your memory wain
Today is not a day to argue or to chide We must thank the many servicemen who died And as eleven o clock comes round And Britain doesn’t make a sound we remember those who gave their lives with pride

They went with songs to the battle, they were young. Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

The true heroes, they embrace the death almost like a friend and for believing that the world becames a better place.

A minutes silence all around, for those who lay there on the ground. They did not move, they did not shake, their souls ready for this world to take. And there they go, off they fly, climbing upwards towards the sky. Do not be sad that they did go, where they went was short a hero.

So very well put. Do you know who wrote the poem?

I think it was Don Crawford?
True respect for all the soldiers around the world that have fought and lost their lives. True bravery.

I find infinitely poignant these countless rows of crosses that reflect the sacrifice of all those young people who gave their lives far from home for our freedom.

Three friends from the village departed from the campsite searching for a tear. Evading the threat of the shot their comrades would not hear. Holding on to all that is near and dear, never forgetting who they fight to protect.
And in the night sky, a flicker of hope arrives, and the sky opens. For they have found the tears they were searching for, the tears of time.
And most of all, the trio remembreth that the tears of time show no mercy for those who wallow in hesitation. So therefore, in the midst of precipitation, their resolve was reinforced, and did not relent 'til the war was won.
To all of those who fought gallantly, the sun shines on their loved ones for a little bit longer, and it is thanks to the ones who died to protect whom you've left behind. May you find the tears of time.

I want to pay my respect to all who gave their lives for their countries.
And may these countries repay them by not asking for any more young lives to be given away.

I really like that poem Jensen! I've posted "Why wear a poppy"on Facebook and got many likes :)
Countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, UK, France etc. should be happy they haven't been fighting eachother for over 66 years. It is something to celebrate I think. A good thing, this Remembrance Day.
Hope you all have had a peaceful day!
(I sometimes wonder what the world would be like if everyone is against / doesn't use any form of violence)

Indeed, this thread is for remembering those who died fighting for something that they believed in, and not for personal battles between guys that haven't got anything better to do than argue with each other on the internet. Show some respect guys. People died fighting for the freedoms we take for granted today. Show them the respect that they deserve.

We will remember them...
And not forget mans' best friend.
Old Taffy o’ the Mill ‘Is name was Old Taffy, Old Taffy o’ the Mill, An’ we all lost a friend When Old Taffy got killed. We was waitin’ to go, On patrol up The Falls; When our very best friend, Gave ‘imself for us all. It was ‘urled from outside, To catch us off guard. Only our very best friend, Was left there in that yard. The bomb was ‘omemade, Packed with nails n’ bolts. Old Taffy our friend, Sniffed, gave ‘is ‘andler the nod. An’ then it went rotten, Lots o’ screaming and smoke; Gone was our friend’ An’ our ‘earts they was broke. ‘E was loved by us all, Especially the Toms. ‘E was man’s best friend, When ‘e lay on that bomb. ‘Is name was Old Taffy, Old Taffy o’ the Mill. And the world lost an 'ero, When Old Taffy got killed.
