Welcome to Quixotic Press. Over the coming months we will be striving to bring you the very best interviews with members of this great community. From fresh-faced rookies to elite veterans, we will endeavour to provide you with a wide array of perspectives on all aspects of GPRO life.

We will be publishing a weekly 'feature' every Thursday, which will usually take the form of an in-depth interview with a manager or staff member. These will be interspersed at various points with smaller pieces focusing on particular issues with which the game is currently confronted, or commentaries on stand-out events from the latest race. In order to sustain the anticipation, the identities of those being interviewed will not be revealed in advance.

While the interview programme is already largely mapped out, feel free to send me a message with any suggestions or comments: /gb/NewMail.asp?IDM=108382

Discussion is welcome in this thread, as every time a new feature is published we will place a direct link to it in this opening post for ease of navigation.

If this is supposed to be a thread with spoof interviews , then I have no problem ,as long as that it is made clear from the outset.

In depth interview with a staff member .....I nominate Mr Shadow for first interview :)

If it is a manager.......I nominate Michael Keeney :)

Without further ado, it's time to get this road on the show. And who better to start off the Press than a veteran, champion and gentleman.

Welcome, Maxim. Tell us a bit about yourself, and your hobbies outside GPRO.

I'm 39, have a wife and 2 daughters, 13 and 5. Work as a marketing manager in telecommunications company. My main passion is motorsport, especially F1. Also I like travelling by car, swimming, playing tennis, skiing, watching sports on TV and playing board games with my family.

You won back-to-back GPRO titles in S7 and 8, then two seasons later you were gone! What caused your rapid departure from the game at that time, and what brought you back?

I decided to stop playing because I was very upset that the outcome of this game depends a lot on random events. No matter how hard you try and how much better your package than your opponents' is, you can lose the title due to a couple randoms. Also at that time I got a new job, which required a lot of hard work and focusing, so I thought that gpro would distract me from my new job achievements.

And I returned for many reasons. I'm a veteran player, you know ;) Started playing online f1 manager games 20 years ago, in 1996. Have met many good friends since then, and the main reason for returning was because I missed them a lot, and I saw that game changed a bit, with tyres selection etc. Thought maybe I should give it another try.

You've been back since S43. How do you feel the game has changed in the 30-or-so seasons you've been gone?

Actually the game didn't change a lot. Actually there are even more random factors in the game with tyres introduction. The main change is the increased level of competition, because lots of people has been playing for 20+ seasons, have all the tools & formulas, great staff and flawless strategies.

You seemed to be up to your old tricks, with everything going smoothly up until you entered M4 in S49 – what happened there? It looked like you suddenly hit a wall.

Something just gone wrong ;) Maybe my package was not good enough for Master, or maybe because I had some bad luck with start accident and wrong weather on my FT ;)

While you had no team to back you up the first time around, this time you've had no trouble getting admitted into high society – Maximum Overdrive took you on soon after your return, and two seasons later you replaced Aleksander Bracko at Whiskey & Cigars. Were you approached by these teams, or did you have to beat off competition?

Actually, you might not know or remember, but I was in the team Maximum Overdrive before quitting :) And therefore I saw no other option when I rejoined the game. There are still many good friends playing in this team. Then I got an invitation from W&C, which was turned down at first. But later I decided to switch teams for several reasons which I would not like to discuss here. MO is still a great team (they even beat us in Team Cup this season, hehe), I wish them best luck and great success for the future!

What’s the atmosphere like inside the famous W&C team?

It's warm and friendly here, like in a big Family :) Very sad that Leandro & Tomas quit playing, but that's life. Some people quit, some join. We recenly welcomed new, enthusiastic guys, who brought in some fresh air :). But our general attitude is that we really think that the game needs some changes to prevent it from being a routine. Otherwise it might lose even more old players.

We've mentioned that you won your trophies back in the early seasons of the game. Do you believe more is required now to become a GPRO champion, or could all the early winners hold their own in elite even today?

Even though the game is almost the same now and then, but the competition has become a lot tougher since the S15-20 I think. It's like two eras. When the game started, there were lots of areas and aspects which could give an advantage to those, who were good at number crunching, and fastest at discovering the formulas and how the game works, etc. Now you need more than that to be siccessful. Long term planning, lots of luck and flawless strategies in all aspects of the game. But everyone has equal chances. Old players can be quite successful. It's just a matter of time. Zdenek is one of the best examples of old player's comeback to Elite.

Comments on this season's battle in elite?

It's tough as usual. Very small margin between a victory and a 9th place in the race. It will be decided on who has more devotion and concentration on the game, does less mistakes and has best of luck. At least 10 players in Elite are good enough for the title, but sadly the title is only one per season ;)

Finally, what are your plans for the future in GPRO?

Going up and down while building up the sponsor package, training untrainable staff skills, and mainly just having fun playing and chatting with my friends, and maybe someday I will be ready for Elite. But don't expect to see me there very soon. Thanks for the interview, it was a pleasure for me. And for the rest of the community - I wish best of luck to everyone! Stay focused and have fun!

Maxim, thank you very much for your time, and I'm sure we all wish you the very best of luck.

I always thought large amounts of bolded text were a little harsh on the eye, but maybe my monitor's just too bright. If others also feel it would be easier to read in bold then we can make that change going forward.

Or if emboldenating is undesirable than a different colour instead? Not a massive issue tho, reads ok either way
