@Petr Valíček (P7) what's your head at? I'm thinking somewhere like Southern America or North America.

Feel free to have your team discussion in the thread.

I accidentally found the exact location and switched to discord to tell Geir and my phone was like nope back to zoomed out.

if someone guess closer than 1000 km to this i will be very surprised :) Well you could absolutely get it, we have a week. There is enough in this photo to get within 1000km anyway. Within 300km even.
But there isn't really a lot you can do short of looking at every single road in a very large area to find the exact location, and to be honest that's really not fun at all. I feel like I've gotten as close as is possible with the very small list of clues in the picture but getting closer is a grind and boring.
I mean I wasn't expecting a plethora of signs or famous landmarks, but like... a fraction of a sign, a blurred distant number plate, or a building wouldn't go amiss. Even a compass direction :D

Same boat as you mate. I think I know the country, but to work out the actual location, there should be something that is a bit standout lol :D

I wouldn't worry too much about not being exact. I basically just threw a dart at the map to select this one. If its preferred I can tone down the difficulty for future rounds. That said, geoguessr is also bloody difficult.
I would have got this horribly wrong if I was given this by the way - I don't expect precision.
other note: I'm using decimal coordinates to 7 decimal places. If you are using a different format (either more or less decimals, or minutes and seconds) I'll have to try and convert your answer.

But in Geoguessr, you can move yourself to find clues. In this, you literally have one screenshot lol :D

Yes that is an added challenge ... I may or may not also be a heartless cruel bastard

It depends how you want the game to be. If it's like this, I'll probably spend a bit of time trying to figure out which country I think it is and then pick a random place in the country. Otherwise you can try to make a round where there is enough information to get it perfectly, but without any clues that make it really easy. It's hard to do that though as any sign can be instantly googled.
Josh made a really nice example round which had a bunch of information (large river, bridges, huge buildings and a 5 lane wide road), but no obvious signs or landmarks that gave away the answer instantly.
I don't think the rounds need to have that much information, but I would prefer something to work with that would make me spend a bit more time than picking a place at random within a country and hoping I'm lucky. :P
I also think regardless of everything above we should get the compass direction, otherwise we really have nothing to go on. :D

I'll certainly make future rounds a bit easier, but I dont want it so easy that 30% of players are dead on.

I was happy to see the photo, if the photo would have been more easy and hints i would have been disappointed. Ofcourse its difficult the first location, and no i have not found it yet myself, but it keeps things fun.
Im pretty sure nobody is waiting for a photo of the Eiffel tower, Jesus the Redeemer or the Berlin Wall....
If i can make a suggestion, you could post 4 photos of all directions that way we will have more information and it is still difficult enough.

Quote ( Alex Martez @ August 8th 2021,14:22:40 ) Ofcourse its difficult the first location, and no i have not found it yet myself, but it keeps things fun. I dunno, getting the country in like 5 minutes, then looking through roads in that country for the remaining 8 days isn't really my idea of fun. The fun part of geoguessr for me, like Jun said, is being given a small amount of information and then playing detective or using knowledge/skill to narrow down the search radius until you can find the location. I just don't find it satisfying if the narrowest you can get a search radius is the country and your only options are to either put hours of tedious work in trying to find the location, or taking a stab in the dark. Neither of those is fun for me.
I'll play anyway to see what else comes up. At the end of the day if others enjoy it and I don't then it's my problem, so nothing against Tom or anyone. It's just not what I expected :)

I get that @Josh Clark (M4) , the thing is when a photo is being used that gives away the country, and that country isnt that big it will become a lot lot easier. Surely looking through the roads for a while week is indeed a bit much. But we have to be careful not to have 50% of the answers be within 100 km of the location.
I guess youre talking about seeing houses, cars, people, road signs and advertisements on the photo, but that will give it away too much and it would become so much easier. It would be possible to find a decent location to submit without much effort and time.
i'm someone who puts in more time and effort than the average player on here, but i can still learn every time and get better. Thats what i would advice everyone beginner or expert, dont start with asking for easier photos right away but dry to improve (together with your team mate) and it will become a lot more fun.
Everyone who puts in just a couple of minutes in this game will very likely not get many points. And its not fun to do it that way, if i dont finish high at games or if i'm not able to win matches: 9 out of 10 times i either don't put in enough effort or i don't have the required level that is needed. Let's see after a couple of rounds, we can still change things if the majority wants that.

It would be possible to find a decent location to submit without much effort and time. I understand that. I wasn't talking about having huge clues like road signs. Literally 1 bridge, a river, a windmill, any sort of very general landmark that doesn't give away the general location but once you're certain you're within sort of 50-100km, it's something that will get you the answer.
I mean even in this photo you can get probably within 200km in a short amount of time. But like I said, not getting the exact location is just not satisfying for me, and the grind to get there isn't skillful or strategical, it's not fun.
Quote ( Alex Martez @ August 8th 2021,17:54:35 ) Everyone who puts in just a couple of minutes in this game will very likely not get many points. Well the thing is, you can put in a couple of minutes and still get the correct country with photos like this. But after that, you could very likely put in another 5-8 hours of searching through the country's map or drive along in street view and be absolutely no closer than a random guess in that country. Time spent doesn't necessarily mean you get closer if you don't find the exact location.
Take England for example. If you were plopped on a country lane, fields on your left and right, and trees obscuring the horizon so no hills/mountains in sight, you could very easily either be in Cornwall in the south-west corner, or 500km north near Newcastle. That's literally anywhere in the countryside in England. So if you quickly guessed England and then spent the next few hours looking at country roads in Cornwall because it looks like the photo,, if the answer is Newcastle you'd be twice as far away as someone who quickly guessed England and just guessed the middle of the country.
But competition aside, there is literally no sense of accomplishment if you don't get the exact answer because you never even know if you're getting "closer". So unless you think you can actually find the exact location, there's no motivation to spend a long time on this for me. Each to their own though, I'll eat my words if you get closer :)

Yes Josh i agree with you on the example you gave, im glad you know what youre talking about. I'm just not sure how Tom could could do this in future rounds, not too difficult and not too easy...
For me it feels like an accomplishment if im sort of close with a tricky location even if i cant find the exact location, ofcourse this is personal and will be different for everyone.
I"m not sure at all that i'll get closer than you, i hope many will be closer than me otherwise theres not much of a challenge for me.
Maybe for the beginners, try to put in some time and learn some important things that can be handy for playing geoguessr. When i started i thought i knew a lot already, but than i found people who are much better and faster than me. There is a lot of information online about geoguessr, you will notice that after a few locations you will be faster and more accurate. Also have Google Maps open and check your locations. The more you will do this the more it will help you!

I agree with Alex. And some hints are hidden in the picture (or maybe I'm completely wrong lol). But there are several rounds so maybe Tom could make some difficult rounds (like this one) and some easier. Then everyone will be happy :)
