Hi, I signed a new driver at the start of the season, and I went from qualifying near the top 5 out of 12 or so drivers last season, to barely making the top 10 this season, despite not really having a clue what I was doing last season! I feel like I looked for the wrong skills when looking for a new driver, as I downloaded the driver list onto a spreadsheet and analysed it from there.

So out of all the driver skills, what do you look for the most? or what skills make a faster driver?

A reasonable strategy is to look at successful drivers that are currently not employed. You can, for instance, look at drivers of the top performers in different Rookie groups last season, who don't currently have a manager, and see what stats they had. This isn't always 100% reliable, but at least you'll have an idea.

Another way to determine if a driver is at least somewhat good is to see what their average points per race is. Then from there, you can correlate which stats tend to be high on drivers with high point scores.

Do note though that not all drivers with high points per race are necessarily good, while not all good drivers have high average points per race either. Still, it's a start

Louis, 'Finding a driver guide for new players' thread ( here: /gb/forum/ViewTopic.asp?TopicId=20000#scroll ) basically covered well what you asked. Try at least check the 1st post :)

It varies depending upon what you are looking for.
Short, medium or long term plan.

In Rookie you should be able to kick ass with even a mediocre driver, as many n00bs don't have a clue what they are looking for or know about risks and management of their "Package".

Feel free to send me his stats via PM and I will point out the good, the bad, and the ugly if you want.

Cheers

I had to think more than twice before I have given you a thumb UP.
I have given it for the advice * ONLY - not the rest.

Contrary to the first response to your query, I strongly recommend doing what my team did shortly after its inception; find a driver with one attribute at a really high level, highest you can find. Contract the driver for a maximum of 3 races; during those 3 races you are going to save as much race data as you can using absolutely no risks to reduce variables. Do this for every driver attribute, then go back and find a driver with 2 attributes that are pretty good, repeat the whole process again as before. All the while, you should start seeing patterns forming, to which you should have an idea of what you need for a driver.

Once you have the basics down either from reading the selection Lyee recommended or the method I recommended, join a team to learn more complicated things with drivers that are difficult to learn on your own.
