Constructed in 1971, on a plot of land adjacent to their Maranello factory, this circuit is used exclusively as a testing facility by Ferrari, for the development of both F1 cars and road vehicles. Built in just a few months, the facility boasts state of the art technology, including closed circuit TV and electronic timing. The average lap speed of the Formula 1 cars exceeds 180 km/h, with a top speed of around 300 km/h. Given the twisting layout of the circuit, it is especially useful for testing and adjustment prior to racing on circuits like Monaco. The designers have also tried to replicate some of the different corner types encountered on the world championship calendar, examples including Rascasse from Monaco and Brunnchen from the Nurburgring.
