International Cup for F1 Manufacturers
Points are awarded on an 8–6–4–3–2–1 basis to the first six finishers at each race. However, a manufacturer only receives points for its highest placed car and only the best six results from the nine races are retained.
Current standings are as follows:

After a race to forget for BRM, it is Ferrari who claim their 3rd consecutive Teams Championship crown, with Team Principal the Wagner also claiming his 3rd consecutive title as well! Not only do BRM not win the title, but thanks to Bonnier's efforts and a countback of 1st places, it is Maserati who bow out of F1R in 2nd place just 4 points off the Ferrari total in the end. Team Principal Ibbotson is going to be the name that almost every team next season will want to sign...
BRM do finish 3rd in a solid season for them, while Cooper will be disappointed to be down in 4th overall with Team Principal Morris likely in some trouble for having 2 of his drivers not even show up for the final race of the season...
...Vanwall meanwhile finish their F1R tenure with a very respectable 5th place (what will Team Principal Baston do next season, one wonders...?) ahead of Aston Martin in 6th (with Team Principal Anderson also on the market, given that this is the British marque's final season in the series).
7th place for Scarab overall has done no damage whatsoever to Team Principal Taylor's CV, though this will be the US team's first and last season in the series. Porsche had a season to forget in 8th (will the board keep the faith Howorth, one wonders...), while despite JBW finishing 9th in the last race it may be that Team Principal Fernandes' job is under threat still.
Lotus finish the season bottom of the pile - and of all the Team Principals, Witney must be sweating most about that after his team finish last for the 3rd season in a row - albeit having certainly closed the gap to the team above them this season...

Managing Your Budget
You start with a budget that’s set based on previous performances from the team and using what we know of the teams’ finances in 1960 in real life – this has been PM’d to each Team Principal. You can take the team into negative money, but the consequences of doing so will be as follows:
• Paying interest on the negative amount to the tune of £1,000 per day you’re in negative (starts as soon as the race in question finishes) • Only being able to field cars in championship races, so no non-championship/Formula Junior races for your drivers • Not being able to make any new car parts until you’re back in positive • If you finish the season in negative money you will be automatically sacked as Team Principal before the 1961 season. If you are one of the top drivers you can still apply for a role as a Team Principal, but not with the same team.
The things you can spend money on are as follows:
Drivers (see post #5) Staff (see post #6) Suppliers (See post #7) Car development (See post #8) Pit-Crew (See post #9) Weather equipment (See post #10)
The only other expenditures possible are one-off items, as follows:

Signing Drivers
Initial driver confirmations have already been completed by PM. Now ALL DRIVERS in the game will agree their salaries with the Team Principal, and both should send me a copy of the contract filled in identically:
Driver Name – Team Name – Contract Length – X seasons Signing Bonus – £X Salary – £X Contribution (the amount the driver is going to give towards the team’s development) – £X
Go to post #4 in the main thread (link above) to see the full list of drivers – new signings will be updated regularly in that thread.
Multiplier Limits
To ensure fair competition each team will have to respect the multiplier limit – this is calculated by looking at the average multiplier across the F1R 1960 field and adding 0.1 then multiplying by the number of drivers. This season the limit for your top 3 drivers was worked out as follows:
59 drivers 65.2 total multiplier Average is 1.105 Add 0.1 and multiply by 3 means…
The Multiplier limit for 1960 is 3.62 for your Top 3 Drivers
Please note that if we have enough people join to allow 4th drivers that they will not be affected by the multiplier limit.
Also - please note that you MUST fill all 3 roster spots (as long as the game has 30 players in it).

Signing Staff
All Team Principals will be able to submit bids for the Staff they want until the 1st deadline, which will be at Friday 10th July at 18:00 CET. Subsequent deadlines will be advised once the 1st deadline has been reached. Here is what happens in each possible scenario:
0 bids in Round 1
Any Staff Members with 0 bids on them will slightly lower their expectations for the next round of bidding, which will take place simultaneously with the other Round 2 bids. 1 bid in Round 1
At this point any Staff Members with just 1 bid on them (that is at least their minimum required salary) will sign a contract.
2 bids in Round 1
Any Staff Members with 2 bids on them will move to the 2nd round of bidding, which is where both bidders will be informed of the highest current offer and be given one more chance to improve on that offer. If the 2nd round is tied, then the previous employer will win the contract. If the previous employer is not involved, then the highest bidder in Round 1 will sign the contract. If both rounds were tied, then the team that were HIGHER in last season’s championship standings will sign the contract.
3+ bids in Round 1
Any Staff Members with 3 bids or more on them will move to the 2nd round of bidding MINUS the lowest bidder. Any ties will again be decided in favour of the previous employer, the highest bid in the previous round and then the team that were HIGHER in last season’s championship standings. This process will continue until we reach a round where only 2 bidders remain and then the above scenario for “2 bids” will play out – any ties will be decided by looking at the previous employer and then the highest bids in the latest round each time.
The current Staff Market looks like this:

Poaching Staff
At any point you can pay twice the value of a staff member’s contract and they will automatically come to work for you for the rest of the season. These moves cannot be stopped – and once a staff member has been poached, they cannot move to another team in that same season.

|
Suppliers
You will design your own engine, gearbox and chassis, so don’t need suppliers for those – but you do need to source the following:
• Tyres • Brakes
You should choose from the following manufacturers before the season starts – please note that the values relate to 1-year contracts only (longer or shorter contracts are not possible):
https://i.imgur.com/2oN8JgB.jpg https://i.imgur.com/qGFdcP5.jpg
Contract termination is possible – though you will not receive any refund for doing so and will have to pay a full season cost to your new supplier, regardless of when the change takes place.
Loyalty Bonus
If you stay with the same supplier as you had last season, then you will receive a 10% reduction in their standard prices for the 1960 season. This applies to both tyres and brakes.

Car Development
Much like in real life, different cars will suit different tracks. You will be able to invest in 3 different car parts to affect how your car performs in each race…these parts are as follows:
• Engine (affects top speed) • Gearbox (affects acceleration) • Chassis (affects handling)
Please note that when you “buy” one of these parts, you are actually fitting them to all of your cars. You can sell engines etc to other teams and agree a price between you (both should send a PM confirming the final price and what part is being sold).
You cannot sell a part back once you buy it; but you can keep multiple levels of each part (if you have a factory) and fit whichever you wish for each race. Without a factory any new parts you buy will replace old ones, which you will lose for £0 when the next race starts (unless you sell them before).
You are also able to invest in parts for your car next season (which is more obviously worth it this season). Given the anticipated depreciation of part values is 2 levels, it is worthwhile considering that as the season wears on!
Prices for these parts are as follows:

Pit Crew
Your pit crew are a living breathing organism, who you need to manage effectively. For a new team they will start out at 1/10 skill and 5/10 motivation, for an existing team their levels will be set based on what they were at in the final race of last season – generally speaking, the higher both of those are the quicker your pit-stops will be.
Each race you can do any 1 action:
• Light pit-stop training • Medium pit-stop training • Heavy pit-stop training
Please note – once you reach 10/10 on both Motivation and Skill you will automatically start to promote your pit-crew through the following hierarchy (though there’ll be some short-term effects of doing so):
• Crew Chief • Race Engineer • Technical Director
The benefits of each can be seen in the Staff Market post above (post #6) – please note that you must have a replacement Crew Chief lined up before you can promote one to a Race Engineer. As such for a time you would have to operate with 2 Crew Chiefs; this will not double the effectiveness of the Crew Chief role, as the other will revert to being Assistant Crew Chief until such time as the first becomes a Race Engineer. This principle applies all the way up the ladder (though 2+ Race Engineers do allow you to improve 2+ different Driver’s multipliers).
|
|
|
Keeping Your Drivers Informed
With no radios the only way to reach your drivers is through pit-boards, but in the race they are driving too fast to see them. As such it’s only in qualifying where you can have an effect.
To let them know about track conditions you can purchase a weather station, which you can make more accurate (in a similar principal to the way you purchase car development). The price of this is here:
https://i.imgur.com/zpBK51O.jpg?1
Getting this information to the driver is up to you – it will appear on your Team Sheet, but how you communicate this to your team is your responsibility.
As per last season, you will be able to see both the Qualifying and Race weather from the very start of the session.

Breaking News!
Ferrari have announced the promotion of Bernie Ecclestone to Race Engineer, which has caused consternation in the garage, as Ecclestone - a divisive figure at the best of times - was not known for being above board in all his dealings as a Crew Chief! This prompts several crew members to walk out and seek employment elsewhere, while those who remain look glum at what may well be to come!
Ecclestone meanwhile is said to be delighted with the opportunity and has pledged his future to Ferrari stating that "If any team tries to poach me - at least for this season - I will not be going anywhere!"

Breaking News!
Aston Martin have taken the world of F1R by storm on-track once already this season - and they have now replicated that level of shock with some bold moves in the Staff marketplace. First of all they manage to lure Paul Pietsch away from Ferrari, as the ex-driver turned Race Engineer is sure to be a huge asset for the British marque given his experience behind the wheel!
Meanwhile, having enticed multiple F1R Champion Bob Gerard away from Maserati had already rubbed them up the wrong way - and making him Technical Director of the Aston Martin operation will not have improved that mood any further! However, there are many who believe that a Technical Director is not needed in a British marque and that it is more appropriate for the Ferrari's and Maserati's of this world...and that causes several more experienced members of staff to quit, along with morale in the team reportedly being at an all-time low!
Though both Paul Pietsch and Bob Gerard have now pledged the remainder of this season at the least to the newly competitive Aston Martin team...

More Breaking News!
Ferrari v Aston Martin is emerging as an early story-line this season, and arguably in response to losing one of their three Race Engineers to Aston Martin, it is Ferrari who turn poacher and swoop in to sign Cyril Simmonds from Aston Martin.
That move does at least replace the promoted Ecclestone as an Assistant Crew-Chief for Ferrari - but in the long run it's hard to look at this as anything other than a knee-jerk reaction to losing Pietsch to the British marque!

Even More Breaking News!
In the latest round of Ferrari v Aston Martin, it is the British marque who swoop again to make a move for Cecil Shufflebottom and entice him over to their team - possibly largely due to having the opportunity to work alongside Paul Pietsch!
Shufflebottom has committed the remainder of the season to Aston Martin, while Ferrari now are a man down - though there does not seem to be anyone else from Aston Martin they could poach now!

Breaking News!
Maserati have promoted Giulio Alfieri to the role of Crew Chief, which has caused a ruckus in the team at what is perceived to be a potential lack of faith in Guerino Bertocchi by some - while others believe this appointment is paving the way for Bertocchi to be promoted to Race Engineer!
As such, several key Pit Crew members elect to move on - taking with them their skills and a significant amount of goodwill from the Maserati garage...

More Breaking News!
Aston Martin - so often causing controversy this season - are at it again, as they make the decision to promote the 1st ever female Crew Chief in F1R history! Former driver Maria Teresa de Filippis steps up to the position of power...
...and because it's 1960 that causes uproar amongst some of the less enlightened pit crew members, who elect to leave the team rather than take orders from a woman! Here's hoping she can prove them wrong...

Breaking News!
Another round of poaching takes place, this time with Maserati driving the main agenda, as they persuade Vittorio Bellentani to depart Ferrari and work as a Race Engineer for them to facilitate their rise up the ranks. Likewise a raid on the lowly Scarab outfit strips them of Crew Chief Tony Rudd to ensure Maserati are fully prepared for an assault on the Championship title!
In retaliation (though Team Principal Tim Wagner would not confirm this was his reasoning), Ferrari poach the highly rated young Crew Chief Guerino Bertocchi from Maserati to bring over and groom as a replacement for Bellentani...

Breaking News!
Not to be outdone, Lotus now get into the poaching game - as they deprive JBW of their sole Crew Chief. JBW are said to be disappointed to lose the highly rated Cyril Atkins - though Team Principal Fernandes remains bullish about his team's chances of finishing in a strong position this time around...

Breaking News!
Ferrari have announced the promotion of Cyril Simmonds to Race Engineer to support their bid for one of their drivers to claim another driver's title. Who Simmonds will work with is as yet unclear, which has in turn caused some divisions in the ranks - with several pit-crew members walking out due to the lack of clarity from leadership about the direction the team is going in.
For those who remain, the atmosphere appears somewhat toxic right now - something which Simmonds will likely have to attend to in due course...! Simmonds has also pledged the rest of the season to Ferrari to thank them for this promotion.

Breaking News!
Vanwall have promoted a brand new Crew Chief in the shape of Arnold Marther-Farquhar, who was a relative unkown before this promotion and indeed was far more junior than several of the other candidates in line for this same promotion.
As such, despite Team Principal Baston's confidence in Marther-Farquhar, a whole host of experienced Crew Members leave the team and create both a skill and motivation drain on the Vanwall team as a whole...

|
|
Breaking News!
JBW have had a moderately successful season thus far, though Team Principal Eduardo Fernandes takes the decision to break up the previously effective Pit Crew group he had in place by promoting Marcus Harper to be their new Crew Chief - that causes some unrest in the group, with many feeling that there should not have been a promotion at all! As such, several key pit crew members walk out, while those that remain look somewhat disillusioned as a result...
That said, Harper has gone on record to say he is excited by the opportunity and has confirmed he will work for JBW for the rest of this season at least, regardless of any other offers that come in.

More Breaking News!
Nepotism appears to be alive and well at Cooper, as they have elected to promote another Shufflebottom - and to the shock and consternation of the 1960s pit crew, they have promoted a woman to the role of Crew Chief! This has caused uproar amongst the remainder of the Pit Crew, some of whom refuse to be managed by a woman and some of whom feel overlooked compared to a newcomer to the team!
Barbara Shufflebottom is the woman in question, who has pledged the remainder of this season to the team at least...

Even More Breaking News!
When a team has 2 Crew Chiefs and a need for another Race Engineer, there is always going to be one side of the garage that feels discontent and upset with the decision to promote one of those Crew Chiefs - and so it proves at Maserati, as Tony Rudd is overlooked in favour of the home grown talent and less experienced Giulio Alfieri - and while that please a whole host of mechanics, some of those that feel Rudd has made a huge impact since his arrival from BRM walk out in disgust at the decision!
Those remaining certainly look like they have lost some motivation, though not Alfieri himself, who reconfirms his commitment to Maserati this season!
|
|
|
Breaking News!
BRM are the latest team to promote a new Crew Chief, though it seems like this is a damning indictment of long-time BRM Crew Chief Mike Pillbeam's performance in the role. Several long-term pit-crew mechanics decide that this is a sign of the times - and elect to leave the team before the promotion is even confirmed!
That new Crew Chief is Peter Berthon, whose statement committing at least the remainder of this season to the team is lost amongst the media circus surrounding the mass walkouts of the pit-crew...
|
|
|
Breaking News!
Aston Martin cause further issues when they promote Maria Teresa de Filippis to Race Engineer ahead of fellow Crew Chief Cecil Shufflebottom - which as expected causes a massive rift in the team, including several pit-crew members citing this as the final straw for them...
...and while that has depleted the skills within the team and the morale around the garage, de Filippis appears unmoved and has reiterated her commitment to the team for the remainder of this season at least.

Breaking News!
Lotus have been relatively quite in the pit crew market, since they poached JBW's Crew Chief - but after all of that effort to put one over on their rivals they have simply been getting on with things. Though Atkins' job has clearly not been good enough, given that they elect to promote another Crew Chief in the shape of K A Runslowly, who will come in to give some much needed support to the incumbent Chief.
However - shockingly - not everyone is happy about the appointment and many of those loyal to Atkins elect to leave the team, leaving a general feeling of alienation about the place thereafter...!
