well he flipped his car again this week. well the race was over and he just ran into the back of a car and flipped his car again. said after the race he did not know it was the checkered flag.
Would give u a link to checked it out but i do not know how to post in here.

He had one horrible race. Running over the timing cone, destroying his front wing, flipped his car after the race was over. He is lucky he isn't injured. Danica is lucky she isn't injured either. Her crash that almost involved the safety truck could have been horrible.

wow that guy in front of him just broke for no reason from what it seems if you slow it down and go frame by frame

Well, one of the main reasons for slowing down was that the race was already over (I don't think he used the brakes, probably just stopped using the gas pedal and put to neutral or used the motor to brake). Dear Franchitti just didn't realise it and tried to overtake but was a bit surprised that his opponent lost that much speed all of a sudden.

At first i thought Matsuura just stepped on the brakes which cause Dario to fly. Dario now amitted he didn't now the race is over, and went full speed into Matsuura's car. But no worries, there is no chance Franchitti will flip for a 3rd race at Infineon.

Indy cars (IRL) are normally asperated meaning they are not turbo charged or superchaged, so when they let off the throttle completly the engine binds up more than a turbo would. So he probably didn't brake.

ahhh did not know this ... that would explain the full throttle approach into the back of his car because the varying speeds look so great ... i had thought he was off the gas as well and the other guy broke :)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the huge downforce that slows the cars so much when they let off the throttle?

Engines have negative throttle as well, Toni :-) When you let off the gas pedal, the friction in the various parts of the engine and compression will cause the engine to slow down.

I know what engine braking is :)
I was talking about cars with huge wings and possibly venturi tunnels. I don't think that engine or drivertrain friction plays a big role compared to downforce in slowing the car down.

Hmmm... I don't think that IndyCar on a usual 1½ mile oval has a lot of downforce and drag :-)

Not when compared to an F1 or a street track setup anyway, but it still has to have some downforce to handle the corners at max speed.
At high speeds, air resistance becomes the biggest slowing factor and in my opinion even with a minimum drag setup the car will slow down more because of the air resistance/drag/downforce/whatever, than it will because of engine compression.

his nickname before the crashes was "the flying scotsman"...that seems to have been justified...

I was actually at that race in Kentucky and sitting in turn 1 and I've never in my life seen a crash like that exept on tv. It was really cool. Just glad that noone got hurt.
