On the forum, I was thinking that if there were a "Like" (and if necessary "Dislike") button on each post it would add some fun to the forums. It would show what is widely appreciated (or hated) as a forum post, or forum poster.
What's the thought?

Where is the dislike button? ;p
It would probably end up creating too much hostility between certain managers.
Edit: if the aim is to stop posts like the one directly below this, then I would say that the idea does have some merit to it.

Wouldn't the rating system just highlight FOBY information?

Problem with this is that it takes something away from the forum conversations. At present, if you want to show support for a post, you must make a post yourself - one which covers more than the now almost-banned "+1". It doesn't promote debate and discussion if you can just tick "like"
It's also one of those really annoying features of FB which means people can pretend they're interested in what you say without making any effort to contribute. it's like having a friend who just stays mute and nods at everything.

Its funny how in 90% of the cases 90% of the managers dislike new suggestions. If this was implemented, there'd be 90% less whining posts as there'd be a button to push instead. Hence, GPRO would save 90% of the forum space!

Were not whinging just saying the ideas rubbish who need a facebook like approval of wether people like or dislike what I write who care

People disagree with the idea (as is the norm in GPRO anyway, c'mon now), so OP attacks a particular set of posters for not agreeing. Right, ok.
All the 'liking' would just clutter up the forum and get extremely annoying. What if someone makes a good post, and it gets 700+ likes? That's a whole lot of scrolling to do.

Its not about whining per se. Most of the time the suggestions that are made do not have enough of a spine behind them , and therefore cannot stand up to constructive criticism. Admittedly, there are always way too many negative, unhelpful comments posted....just like there are too many +1 posts.

Done correctly it could be quite useful. Wouldn't need more than a thumbs up and a thumbs down showing the # of each received in the title bar of each post. Now, you could search forums after posts that are popular, sort your unread by most popular etc.
On sites like Slashdot or Digg, these are quite important. Personally, I have filters on Slashdot that just shows me posts that are above certain thresholds meaning I have to spend less time reading trollish posts.

It's been suggested before, it's been denied before, this isn't facebook.
However, there's another forum i partake in called facepunch. For all who know of it, they have a rating system where each user has the right to rate a post.
But then again, this isn't facepunch either.

I think 90% is a good number. If 10% of all the suggestions have the quality to become implemented. It´s still plenty. ;)

I agree, 10% implemented is likely way above the average of useful suggestions. However, this change would actually be useful as we'd not have to click a forum link just to read:

That was what appeared on my mind when I read the OP - before I read yours :D
My counter-strike forum used to have a 5-star rating system and it was used, but rarely :D

to be honest, I suggested to the admins a time ago to add the like button to some pages in GPRO, but not for forums
for example an announcement or a podium in a race replay
but they didn't pressed the button :p
