Quote ( Samoeni Albanalopolis @ March 28th 2012,13:51:00 ) Just wait and see chelsea in Finals. I knew Blues would make it :)
Yeahhhhhh!!Quote ( Michael Monaco @ May 20th 2012,00:50:43 ) Quote ( Mark Webster @ May 19th 2012,23:59:02 )
Actually no. I believe that showing no desire to attack is a sign of cowardice and is a disrespect to the game itself. Football is about scoring goals. My opinion, and that is why I do not respect what Chelsea have done. I believe biggest wars were won by tactics and strategies Mark. Not attacking like an idiot with no clue.
When Chelsea pushed they did a good job and scored the equal. But they knew that If they were gonna play like this it would mean give Bayern a lot of space and they didn't want that to happen so that's why they stay close to each and they defended.
Yeah Bayern played better, so what? Chelsea won it on it's on way.

Football at this level is all about dealing with pressure, and Bayern crumbled. As many people have said, its the win that matters, if Chelsea had attacked all day they'd have just been nailed by Robben and Ribery on the counter-attack, so playing defensively was their only option...
Was still a good game to watch and a great shoot-out, even if I don't really like watching penalties...
Oh, and people using the no history argument against Chelsea (might not have cos I haven't scoured every post), Chelsea won the cup winners cup in 1971, before Liverpool won any European tournament...

Quote ( Louis Francis @ May 20th 2012,12:12:22 ) Was still a good game to watch and a great shoot-out I must agree. Chelsea managed to handle pressure better than Robben and their defense was good enough to block Gomez scoring.
|
|
|
I both agree with you Louis and Samoeni. If you aren't the strongest on the field you have to be the smarthest.
Yeah you need some luck at the shoot-out too but indeed that is dealing with the pressure.
And dont forget that it was in Munich's own stadium and the shoot-out was at the side of the Munich fans too.

Nice to see a defense first club like Chelsea win the tournament. I think a lot of North American clubs could improve by following their methods.

Oh yeah, improve in destroying football as a spectator sport.
It was absolutely awful and disgusting to watch a team doing absolutely nothing for two semis and 120 minutes final and still get away with the trophy. Goes to show that cowards can be winners. But it's a shame, really.

I'd rather lose valliantly than win by default.

Yeah, Denmark did it in the 1992 European Championship. For a start they failed to quilify and only got in because Yugoslavia were sanctioned and banned. Also, they only won 2 games in the tournement and still came away with the trophy. Defending well is not a new concept in the game.

Not the most glamorous European champion but it´s the one for the records. Well done Chelsea.

A match going to extra time is not nessarsarily a result of a overly defensive game.

Greece winning Euros was all about defense too.

Quote ( Jimmy De Roy @ June 25th 2012,13:20:25 ) Shamrock Rovers FC (IRL) v FK Ekranas (LTU) Don't have high hopes for this one, but if we want to go to the group stages, we have to beat clubs like that.

Lukas surely your good enough to beat Shamrock Rovers? I mean I don't know much about both teams but are Ekranas Lithuania champions? Then surely you should coast past Shamrock Rovers?

Then surely you should coast past Shamrock Rovers? Ekranas are always rubbish in Europe (except when they play clubs from Malta on San Marin :D). The only way to score for them is from free kicks or corners.Quote ( Michael Keeney @ June 25th 2012,13:26:46 ) I mean I don't know much about both teams but are Ekranas Lithuania champions? Then surely you should coast past Shamrock Rovers? Yeah, they are, but Lithuania's football league is kind of weak, to put it in kind words and aren't Shamrock Rovers champions of Ireland? I think their league should be at least a little better than ours.Quote ( Jimmy De Roy @ June 25th 2012,13:27:00 ) Roflol Yeah, I hope that someday Ekranas goes through to group stages. I mean last year they only needed to keep the score against BATE on second leg to go through (It was 0-0 at Lithuania and 1-1 at that point in Belarus).

Well i hope my team doesn't qualify as it will be beatings all over, i prefer them playing EL

Quote ( Jimmy De Roy @ June 25th 2012,13:35:31 ) Well i hope my team doesn't qualify as it will be beatings all over, i prefer them playing EL That would also be a huge step forward for any Lithuanian team. I think playing in Europe would give valuable experience to our players not even talking about the money you get.
I really think it would only do good to go through to EL or CL even if we lose every single game there.

Lukas, the Irish league is pretty terrible probably worse than you're giving it credit for. All the even slightly good players from Ireland play in England or Scotland, because football is the 4th most popular sport in Ireland after Rugby, Gaelic Football and Hurling, and in some areas, 5th after basketball.
