Was watching a show on TV. A Sprint Car race at Bristol.

Apparently a Sprint car set a new record at Bristol, just over 150 MPH (a qualifying lap, I believe.)

I would guess NASCAR would outrun Sprint cars on a longer track, but on a 1/2 mile like Bristol, they can probably put the pedal to the floor and not let up, given their short wheelbase and massive downforce.

Bro, I pay way more attention to Bristol Brewery. Drink more Laughing Lab!

Remember NHRA quarter-milers at Brainerd (MN, US)? No, I guess not. THOSE were some cars to watch, plus the Kalittas....

Ah Bristol. What a track. Driving a stock car round that must be exhausting, you're either turning or braking.

you're either turning or braking.

As I understand the sprints, they put on more throttle to turn, since the rear axle torques the car around. 8o

Also, on these sprints I remember noticing the right side wheels sit way outside the centerline (compared to left side) which really helps in the turns. 150mph on Bristol avg? That must be excruciating on your neck!

The dirt sprints make me think of WWI Camels and Triplanes doing torque turns in a race to a dirt nap. Very simple and turn on a dime!

sprintcars would hammer nascar in a 1/4 to 1/3 mile tracks. 'cause of horsepower downforce speed, the slides through the corner and the tire size.

I was shocked to learn that the Sprint cars have very similar HP to NASCAR. Over 800 HP on Sprint as I recall. Just over 400 cu inch engines. With their lightweight, wow, that's something.

I would guess NASCAR cars, by design, are going to be faster on big ovals, as I would guess all that downforce on the Spring car is going to drag it down...they are not designed for high straightline speeds.

Remember NHRA

why would we pay attention to drag racing, whats the big thing about that. they just take off and drive in a straight line, also don't crash alot either. plus sprintcars are almost faster then drags anyway.

This is not even close to correct.

Everyone has different interests. Drag racing is by far the fairest of all racing. Take off too soon, you're DQ'd. Cross the centerline, you're DQ'd. How many times in road racing has someone who was fast been taken out by some chump pulling a bonehead move? A lot.
Quote ( Scott Reed @ January 3rd 2012,07:47:58 )

If you could ride in one, even just NHRA Pro Stock, you would have a different opinion. They are very busy, it's just over so quick you don't realize it. Then there is Top Fuel. It's not easy to apply nearly 10,000 Horsepower to the track. You should see it at least once in person. The sound of Top Fuel cars is like nothing else. TV doesn't do it justice.

all dragcars have are acceleration, sprintcars are on dirt remember, so 150 mp/h in not even 100 meters is extremely fast, also been there done that. saw drags at willowbank raceway, nothing spectacular.

it is sad to see crashes, for the drivers crew and family but the simple fact of the matter is people go to races for crashes.

Some people do, mostly the kids though. I know when I was little that is all I cared about. Things tend to change as you get older and realize the grim reaper has an appointment with everyone.

Only sport I relish crashes in is free style Monster truck racing. I love when they go for it, and some crazy stuff happens...more like pinball than racing (not that freestyle is racing.)

On the downside, Monster truck racing is like watching paint dry or grass grow. Freestyle is what makes them fun to watch.
