Wow surprised that there is a topic opened for yu-gi-oh, I've been playing yu-gi-oh since 1997.
To those who said yu-gi-oh is boring and magic the gathering is better, well yu-gi-oh before was like a game where in each player must race to pull up their strong low level monsters, must continue the development by the help of traps and spells, outplay enemy by using support cards at the right timing and lastly use their strongest monsters to deplete enemy life points. So it's kinda easy as long as you collect the most powerful cards and create a good balance between high level monsters, low level monsters, spells and traps. Then your tendency to win the game is more consistent.
But now, if you will play the game, it is so much complicated. Out of too many cards you just need to choose 40~60 cards to form your deck. Understanding all of the effects of every card is important. Keeping the meta decks in mind is important. Understanding what cards are good and what strategies are needed to counter the most popular decks is important. A lot of cards from about 230 different archetypes can turn the tides of battle. Special summoning monsters like 30 times in your first turn is very possible as long as you build the right deck for your combo! You can combine cards from different archetype to have one theme or select one archtype and play in according to the role of that archetype.
