We already have "live" race, so why not?
Instead of the qualy times being posted when the manager actually does the qualify, the routine would be the same (you do your training laps, setup etc., select risk, tyre and fuel load).
Your Q times would be available to yourself until the beginning of the "live" session. That is, unlike today, you won't know in advance your adversaries times.
Then, say, 1h before the regular race, starts the "live" qualify, could even be modeled along the same screen as the race screen.
The first half-hour would be Q1 timing, cars would show up in track according to the chronological order the managers had set their Qs. So, the manager who set his/her strategy first among the 40 in group, would go to the "live" session first, set his/her time. And so on.
In 30min, it would mean a car going into track every 45s.
With "live" Q1 done, starts Q2 (the other 30 min) in the reverse order (so the slowest manager in Q1 gets to set his/her Q2 time first), so we can save some suspense for the pole fight.
I can't evaluate how feasable this suggestion is, but would add a bit more "liveness" to GPRO and some suspense with the grid being defined right before the race.
It wont alter much today's routine, just having the Qs deadline being moved 1h earlier (presuming each Q will take 30 min, this was just a longshot and could be less, depends on how to implement it).

Well, many people adjust their race strategies according to where they stand on the grid.

I like it, but I also understand there must be a lot of extra programming and server requirements? Anyway I'm going to watch my first race which is exciting enough for now :D

I think hiding the Q tie we has been suggested before, which I would be in favour of. The live qualifying idea is even better.

Quote ( Kuba Szajbel @ November 11th 2014,19:51:19 ) Great one
To be fair, it's not "my" idea entirely. It's from another racing game, a Brazilian one (F-1 Race Brasil). The game itself is nothing near a match for GPRO in game experience.
But a few minutes ago I was just there following the "live" Qs they have there and though "man, this would be great in GPRO".

Amazing idea, the Q would be a lot more intense... espcially in the higher groups like Pro, Master or Elite. :)
TBH more intense than waiting if somebody beats your time as it is currently.

Quote ( Constantin Heller @ November 11th 2014,19:52:33 ) Well, many people adjust their race strategies according to where they stand on the grid. People used to use driver short lists to work out other peoples' driver stats. It was an unfair advantage and it was removed.
I don't even think it's an advantage to be reactive to others. I just like the idea of a bit of mystery.

and what about to hide weather forecast too? IMO it's a bad idea

That's been suggested many times.
My issue with this suggestion is that you would have 2 days and 23.5 hours to do Q1 and then 30 minutes to do Q2 - I believe that's being suggested?
If that were to happen then I, and am sure many others, would have to leave the game. I have to do Q on a Thursday night as I can't access the game at work and when I get home Q has closed.
For the reasons above it's a no for me.

Just because you don't know they do it doesn't mean it doesn't happen!

This is a fair point in current game routine.
Quote ( James Brown @ November 11th 2014,19:53:56 ) there must be a lot of extra programming and server requirements?
Another. But I cant answer for the server load (may be the one reason we don't actually have "live" Qs).
Quote ( Mark Wright @ November 11th 2014,19:57:21 ) That's been suggested many times.
I did some search and indeed "hidding Q times" have been suggested many times. But I didn't find a suggestion for "live" Qs.

Mark, I don't think that's what he is suggesting. The functionality would be the same. This would just be better presentation.

My understanding is nothing changes apart from you only see your own time until qualy closes and then see a representation then

Its a good idea Rogerio. Worthy of consideration.

I love this idea, but we have to wait for an Admin response.
|
|
|
Like it,but sounds like a hard work for admins :P (just guessing)
|
|
|
Nice idea, Mark for what I understood you would do both Q's together, just it doesn't show the times until the live qualy event. If it's not difficult to implement would be a great addition IMO. It wouldn't give advantage to all those who qualifies later.

|
|
Thanks guys.
So you would see Q1 up until 30 minutes before the race when Q2 would be able to be seen?

Displaying qualifying results in one hit at the 'last minute' I'm in favour of.
Revealing it in a graphical way similar to a 'live' race sounds cool but I think in reality the novelty would wear off. Maybe just keep it the way it is now but just do the 'reveal' before the race
|
|
|
IMO Could be a good idea if the "Live Qually" goes after the Qually ends (1:30h after the race begin)

to me this is more the reason to change it :)
Why should someone who can be on at a certain time have a perceived advantage? I also like the idea of the suspense of it :)

will the people in Australia have to wake up in the middle of the night? I might not have understood it completely

No it would basically be the same as now, but the result would be only be shown once qualy has closed in a visual way and you would not see others times till then
