well the test track is the same throughout the season, the conditions are variable

So you can use it to help you learn how the weather and other things may or may not affect the set up of the car :)

Incorrect. Having a good setup that your driver likes can mean a good time, and can have its own benefits.

What does this help with?

You can help narrow down your driver's happy range, such that you can find a more efficient way of arriving at ideal setup in practice, allowing additional laps to calculate the difference between the tyres at different tracks at different temperatures, plus for finding better wing splits.

The happy range, you will found out, when you make practice laps.
Never use this in test laps. You have car wear in the tests.

Using correct setup in testing Is a matter opinion. I use all 1's and have a very slow time. There are benefits to be had from testing but that's something you need to try to find out by trial and error

In my opinion testing is not necessary in Rookie or Amateur - that is just my opinion though and others obviously do find good reasons to undertake testing. The best reason I can give is to use your time in Rookie to understand the mechanics of the game.

Yep, verify what you read of course.... And then try it out in-game. Once I found info online that seemed to line up with a lot of what I found here, it helped to reduce the learning curve.

That said, testing seems to be overrated in rookie.

Testing can be useful for learning the basics of how to setup the car in Rookie especially if you're planning to stay in Rookie for the next season when you get all your free cash back and everything is reset.

I also wouldn't say that testing in Ama isn't necessary especially if your getting ready to promote to Pro.

Why test in rookie when you can practice for free?

I only saw the benefit of gaining some research points, etc, but if you don't know what you're looking for, it's pointless. You may be able to calc some tire wear and fuel consumption rates, but without ideal settings for the track, doesn't really help...

I spent money testing in 1st rookie season. It was a waste because I had a crappy driver, and put a lot of wear on my car. That said, in second rookie yr I did 4 stints, just now, to boost character points... And get some stamina for my driver. That will be it until later seasons...

Well simply by reading this thread/the forum's in general/having a brain of your own with some idea's will give you some things to look out for and test and then you have this data.

I think you miss the point of rookie :)

The point of rookie is to be able to learn stuff and you can do that in many way's including testing.
This is the problem with google being your friend as you stated, because my guess is that you have stumbled across something which you think is helping you and it may do in the short term, but in the long term it will stunt your development and understanding of the game because all the time you have been blindly following something found via google you could of actually been enjoying the challenge of learning the game :-)

No, I haven't missed the point of rookie. I've gone out and researched the info, was my point. Testing in rookie is a waste. Sure you can gain from it, but you can learn a lot by researching without having to test.

Sure, money gets reset in rookie, but who wants to live Groundhog Day every day? Not I.

I still have a lot to learn, but I' find with that. The point I was making, which you obviously didn't understand is you can gather data from practice first, then apply it to your testing, and make the testing more fruitful.

It's called return on investment. Sure do the testing right at he beginning. It doesn't mean anything unless you understand what the data means. Bad investment.
