Murray Walker is only an OBE, he probably deserves a knighthood more

He wasnt 6 x world champ though was he .
He was only a commentator that made mistakes all the time ,lucky he got an OBE.
I can never understand the hatred of Lewis by brits.
you wouldnt get that from Brazil against Senna or Germans against schumi.

He is already an MBE, that should do him for now, wouldn't want his head to get too big for his helmet!
He comes across as too up himself for many with all his bling and not genuine, you feel that he only says some things because a PR guy said it would be good. He has had many social media miss steps that shows him as very hypocritical.
No denying his skill and achievements but i would say save the knighthood for retirement and after he has done more for charity.

none of the Arsenal team from 2004 have a knighthood, btw. Just to put things into scale. I'm sure there's footballers who got knighthoods for a lower honour. Many of them, just for having represented their country, never mind won anything for them. So, I guess it comes down to how well one is liked by her maj., never mind the scale of their achievement. For me, going unbeaten in an entire season, or winning the most F1 titles than any other brit in history (and only one less than Schumacher) should surely constitute an automatic award.

Maybe you've not watched much F1 the last 2/3 seasons, but I've noticed a big change in Hamilton's attitude, pretty much since that season where he and Nico went toe-to-toe for the title. Maybe its just part of "growing up", or that he's been under much less pressure from either his team mate or other contenders for the title. But for sure, he's not at all up himself like he might have come across some seasons back, and is definitely a lot more genuine and does a lot for the younger followers too, meeting them, giving them freebies and such. Without doubt, Hamilton is now much more rounded as both a champion and a person. I think he deserves to be honoured, and I wasn't his biggest fan at all until recent seasons. I don't think anyone can question either his professionalism or his attitude anymore.

I'm with you on this. I'm sure Hamilton will be knighted eventually, but I would like to see Murray knighted. Someone can correct me, but I can't think of a single more influential sports broadcaster in Britain - even the most renowned football commentators don't have much impact outside our shores, whereas Murray was known throughout most of the English speaking world and beyond.
Adrian Newey is another - the man is a 10 time champion!

John Motson OBE - broadcasting Football since 1971. Barry Davies MBE - broadcasting Athletics and Football since 1963 (retired in 2018).
I wouldn't put those two necessarily above Murray, btw, but certainly alongside. All three deserve knighthoods.
BTW, Kenneth "They think it's all over" Wolstenholme never got any honours. And he served fantastically for many years from the inception of the BBC's sports broadcasting. He did get military service honours, but none from her maj. Considering the phrase he is so famous for, one must wonder what any commentator or broadcaster must do to get such honours.
