D'ambrosio should get a mention for his terrible performance in Grosjeans Lotus this season, struggling to even finish 13th in what was proven to be a race winning car. Plus his hilarious spin in the pit lane in Hungary 2011

Well 1 things for certain, there seem to have been plenty of useless F1 drivers, but how many of you guys that think you're such good critics have earnt a F1 drive. Perhaps a more logical topic would be worst F1 team, or worst F1 car because if you find yourself with a F1 drive, you know you're 1 of the best open wheeler drivers in the world no matter what your F1 results!!

lawl
He had come to the car with barely any testing, yet didn't cause any damage.
Far from terrible performance, far from worst-ever

Florian i was thinking the same way as yours Quote ( Florian Idschok @ December 12th 2012,15:15:42 ) Pastor Maldonado
Florian i was thinking the same way as yours but i dont think so that the 'worst' driver will win any race in any time with less middle car ( Williams is not so fast in recent times)

Looks like it took him a while to figure out how to turn the traction control off!
Always feel sorry for Simtek though, that was the '94 Monaco GP I think, ie. the race after Imola where they lost Ratzenberger. I think they pulled out alltogether shortly after that.

It was 95, as that's a Forti passing through. Simtek were by no means a bad team, but the loss of Ratzenberger and Montermini's injury at Spain hurt them in 1994, and they lost income in 1995 because of Noda's lost sponsors. Here's a godo article on them. http://www.f1rejects.com/teams/simtek/profile.html
Also this website is a good read for anyone interested in some of the lesser-known temas and drivers.

correct, I saw the Forti & thought '94 but they were the following season. It's scarey how the years blur together!
I used to take the piss out of my Dad for not remembering properly .... :(

Joosua why is your mind changing all the time?
And all your opinions doesn't make sense.. First you said Prost, then Rosberg. I don't see them at the category for worst F1 drivers ever :)

I've seen Michael Andretti mentioned here a few times, and while I agree that he is bad in regards to F1, he's by far not the worst. There are obvious differences between the car he drove in the IRL (don't remember if it was CART still before the split) and the McLaren F1 car of the time. Hakkinen had more testing time in the car than Andretti did iirc, and it's not like Andretti isn't used to Grand Prix circuits since he's driven through plenty before making the jump to F1. Yes, you could argue that American GP circuits don't compare to others around the world back in '93, and I agree; however, that doesn't mean Andretti lacked the necessary skill to compete in F1, just the lack of experience in a better car than what he's accustomed to.

I came back to the start of the thread and saw people defending Karthikeyan, he's not the worst, but he's not to be so defended nowadays.
Julian Smith gets my vote

From watching him in A1GP, I'd say that he was pretty good...then he reached F1...

Even though I am not a Nico fan, that's just poor as a reason.
So, should I go and shout at Grosjean for not using a Swiss license?

My friend said Olivier Panis, I laughed into his face. A great driver.
Jan Magnussen actually was pretty awful.

Claudio Langes
From wiki: From a statistical point of view, those fourteen failures to pre-qualify make Langes the least successful driver in the history of Formula One.
