o, he means multiplication and division have equal value, then after that, addition and subtration have equal value. It's really not complicated man, you should probably go back to school if you honestly can't wrap your head around this very simple concept.
hehe! As I said above! I am probably just over thinking it!
I completely understand what he is saying but just a little part of me thinks it can't be that easy!

Don't be dense. Multiply anything by zero, the answer is zero.

Think again ... you're not multiplying all those 5s with zero. :)

If you don't believe simple put this to excel .... Nonsense. And if Excel thinks otherwise, it was written by an idiot. Operations work left to right. You end up with 20 x 0. Multiply by zero, you get zero.

Agreed they work left to right, but you've got to keep in mind the BODMAS rule. And according to it, it's like this:
Quote ( Jonathan MacLean @ April 4th 2012,01:28:45 )
5 + 5 =10+ 5 = 15- 5 = 10+ 5 = 15+ 5 = 20- 5 = 15+ (5 x 0 = 0)= 15

Are you taught by an orangutan? If you did not read the thread through, there is a rule in Maths called BIDMAS, BODMAS etc.....
It does not work left to right, but Brackets, then Indices, then Multiplication/Division, then Addition/Subtraction.
So work that out using this rule, then come back and start talking.

Precisely. Hence why you do the multiplication first.

Clashing Convention.
BODMAS or BIDMAS seems commonly accepted here and in most parts of the world. If you follow that system the answer is clearly 15. That however can not limit all the different ways an expression can be interpreted or what a certain notation really means.
Quote ( Marcelo Michelini @ November 24th 2011,13:51:09 )
maths and notations are two different things maths is something universal, but we, human beings, need to give it a notation to work it out
