They're basically doing the same thing to the premier league that investors did to the EFL when the premier league was born, it screwed all the lower league teams.
Ofc I don't want it to happen but I don't see how it doesn't go ahead given that those 12 teams have left the association which governs champions league football, etc. A lot of planning has obviously gone into this. I think only the players can stop this from happening, but I wouldn't blame them if they don't stand up against it as it could just ruin their careers.

So..
What do you think about it?
Do you think it will go ahead?

I think it will go ahead, but will be cancelled in a few years. If you are a fan who likes this, you are delusional. I am a proud FORMER Chelsea fan.

Also if PSG are awarded the Champions League, good for them.

Premier league captains are having an emergency meeting about it.

It's aimed at fans that are not from the towns these football clubs are based in, but it's hugely unpopular with them too. Hopefully it is stopped. It is devastating for cities like Liverpool & Manchester where these clubs are so massive with the communities and predominately working class fanbases.

These are the clubs that can do well with just TV rights and few or no fans in the stadiums. It's the time for them and won't bother to dry everything else around. Money wise.

It's the "support from home" around the world league.

I hope it goes ahead as it is doomed to fail. Fans will turn their back, at least in the stadiums.
No matter how much money involved competitions run on the sports, not the other way around.

Football is about young boys dreaming of playing at big clubs and for their country, small clubs having a great day against a big team. Football is the story of clubs like Leicester becomming national champions and Jamie Vardy a national hero. No matter which club you supported, every football supporter in the world will have felt that season to be something special, to be what it's all about.

This super league - whatever super about it with some clubs that never won a european cup - is against everything football is about. So I hope UEFA takes firm action next Friday and kicks these clubs out if European cups immediately.
This will then probably be followed by national federation kicking those teams from the league(s) with immediate effect. Followed by players possibly running out of contracts immediately as those are signed under those federations...

In a way I feel this mirrors that F1 breakaway thing we had in 2009. The highest earning and most successful teams of that era (Ferrari, McLaren and Renault) made a lot of noises about quitting F1 for a bigger cut of the commercial pie, and drew up some vague schedule of F1 b-tracks (Jerez, Indy, Adelaide and most of the greatest hits from last season's Covid calendar). Big billionaire battle royale and a lot of talk of "heritage-this" and "nuclear-option-that".

Then the existing commercial holders and organisers (FOM and FIA) came to an 11th hour compromise and GPWC was killed in its crib. The big teams improved their stranglehold (by killing off the cost cap), and everyone was happy that Sauber or Force India wouldn't spoil their cash cow by actually winning anything.

Obviously not an identical comparison - football is a socio-cultural juggernaut and many supporters still view their clubs as local institutions. No one sings "Racing Point Mercedes til I die" at Silverstone, and the blue-collar era of F1 probably died with Jack Brabham. But money is the same colour regardless of how it's spent, and I think this will end in 2 months of posturing, UEFA locking in some "heritage bonuses" for the Yank teams, and we'll kick the can down the decade.

You definitely shouldn't want it to go ahead, even to see it fail. If it manages to survive the first few years and proves itself to be financially viable then it can't be dismantled anymore. I agree that it is a shitshow but the worst part about it is that it could work out if the TV deals and sponsor money pan out.

I have a Masters degree in Cynicism..... I find it a strange coincidence that all this happened just before Uefa announced changes to the CL to give slots in the CL to teams based on past history.

Because of the ESL nothing has been said.... How will the "history" be worked out?? Will Tottenham get a slot ( having never won the Champions League/Trophy) Or should Ajax who have won it 4 times??? Or Juventus who won it twice???

The one thing that will make me laugh is hearing UEFA's President Ceferin saying "UEFA is all about the development and growth of Football".

BULLOCKS!

It is so funny to see Fifa and UEFA concerned about Super League after they have made billions from this teams and now pretending they care about football.
They have been asking for a change for long timeee and UEFA decided to add extraspots in CHL in 2024 :D

Id rather see my club earning some more money then see UEFA earning billions from this clubs.

I am not pro this but I see the reason behind it.

And today there was a small discussion in Italy where lower budget teams complained that if Juventus, Milan and Inter will earn 300M euro more each year then they would always win the title race.
And Juventus owner Agnelli said one sad truth "This 3 teams have been winning it last 80 years". So its not like things will change for them just random teams talking no senses.
The amount of money Juventus has invested in small teams helping them through buying and loans is a lot. And now they turn their back on you just like that.

Absolutely ashamed of my team even considering it.
lifelong Man City fan, used to go to games every other week at Maine Road.... my club is dead for me. Finished with it, they won’t get another penny off me or my family if they continue with this shambles.
thing is, even back tracking cannot repair the damage that has been done.

I hope it falls like a pack of cards but my feelings for the club have changed permanently.

I hope they get booted out of the champions league along with Chelsea and Real Madrid And replaced by Porto, Dortmund and whoever Liverpool beat in the semi final.

enjoyed our day in the sun, after following them when they were a laughing stock for so long. Now, it doesn’t mean anything. My football love has died.
